BTW my understanding of the IHT rules on giving your home to your children means you either have to move out or pay them market rent, which could then be subject to income tax.

An important point that is never mentioned when this subject is discussed is the actual people, we only debate the net change figures.

I have a South African friend who has recently emigrated to Aus. He's ex British Army, fit as a fiddle, well educated, law abiding, speaks English and paid a lot of tax.

Will his 'replacement' likewise be a benefit to the UK or a further strain on already stretched resources?

The real surprise here is the revelation that a member of the current cabinet has actually had a job, albeit one she was sacked from.

I can remember in the early 90s an edge of town new Tescos being built in Aldershot.

The local council thought they had done a great bit of work in allowing this as at the time it created the equivalent of 50 full time jobs.

This resulted in approx 50 businesses in the town centre closing within a few years and resulting in a large reduction in the overall rates paid.

The BBC/Labour narrative is they need to do this to "save" the NHS. Have to say I'd be fairly annoyed if I worked there to be constantly told how useless I was . Well ,from 2010 onwards anyway as it was absolutely perfect before.

Others may point out that the figure above represents the cost to the UK of a single weekend of calm weather in the Channel after Labour removed the only deterrent.
