If a company had an at-home breath test that produces instant results, would they really risk delaying so they could work on diagnosing far less urgent diseases?

But it is needed, and other tests can produce results in 5 minutes. This looks like it'll take at least another year at best.

It was being hyped as a Covid test twelve months ago.

We were led to believe earlier this year that they had developed a Covid breathalyser.

Instead of bringing it to market while there's high demand, we're effectively being told they're adding more features and they'll get back to us next year.

There's obviously some doubt. If they have a Covid breathalyser that works, why aren't they doing everything they can to get it manufactured and onto shelves?

If they've made any progress toward it in the past 8 months, why aren't we hearing anything about it? An NDA wouldn't prohibit them from publishing their own results about their own product. No CEO would sign off on that.

BP's major breakthrough (their 'Cans' reactor) trebles the productivity compared to traditional FT reactors. But in order to be on par with VLS they'll have to treble it again.

There's a limit to what you can achieve simply by throwing money at a problem and it sounds like they've reached that limit. VLS is clearly in front there.

It's because the Pfizer–BioNTech and Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines are effective against the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 according to this article, among others.

Are you saying they're developing (and patenting) better ways to use their original designs so that they still have an advantage long after the first patents begin to expire?

Because that sounds exactly like what they should be doing.

Do you have any evidence that was the reason? Because you have a habit of passing your opinion off as fact without even mentioning any alternative explanations for their decisions.

If we go by expat's logic, they might as well give up because Velocys is years in front of them. You could argue that Velocys reduction in R&D is a bad sign. But you could just as easily conclude they've achieved what they set out to and are now focusing on putting it into production.

I think it's about right.

IIRC the start was delayed by several months due to Covid and it takes months to analyse the data. I assume they wanted proof that no volunteers reported any adverse effects for at least a couple of months after dosing. Finally, there might have been an abnormally high amount of pressure on clinical trial companies lately. Fwiw, I think they achieved their 'estimated completion' date.

The trial results are out... kind of.

The study only gave one single dose of the drug to each patient, because all they were doing was checking to make sure there were no adverse effects.

I think the fact they're now starting a 'repeated dose' trial (see below) is a pretty clear sign the first one went well. Maybe the price drop is because the estimated completion date is another year away.

That's what I was referring to with the car analogy. Being 1000x more effective doesn't necessarily mean that it does its ultimate job any better or faster. If your car is 10x faster you still won't get there any quicker if your limiting factor is heavy traffic, for example, or if you're just uncomfortable driving above 20 mph.

But where this is concerned, the faster heat removal actually is a major selling point:

I've seen nothing to suggest that Velocys' competitors are as innovative. So I'm keen to hear if anybody else has.
