Even 50 extra staff at an average salary and costs of £35,000 will realise a cost of £1.75m for the year from September. Altogether, there are about 260 staff split between the Littleport and Alva sites. The cost of the machinery and set up will be spread across a year and any company worth its salt would lease or offset the cost. There a re a lot of schemes available which provide part of the cost of machinery , especially in low income or high unemployment areas and especially rural Scotland. Some offer up to 50% grants for setting up a business. the issue is that you have to pay for the parts and then you get refunded. They don't give you the money but refund up to half your costs. So that 6 or 7 million can be worth up to double in real terms.
