Mulder - I'm like you and have been on these LSE boards for many years, in fact I was trading ages before I signed up to post. My take on most people is if they are genuine portfolio holders of shares, they tend to post around a limited number of shares in a given period of time. If they are out and out traders or they are getting paid to post, that number balloons. The problem with open forums is there are always plenty of naïve investors who put the trust of their money behind people who they have no genuine idea who they are. That's why shorting and P&Ds are so prevalent. GLA

Mulder - oh, yes - shorts definitely starting to close according to the FCA list. I would think there is a little bit of twitchiness, but the %age of overall declared shorts is going down and of course our share price is slowly creeping back up. GLA

larry - our old smiling mate Pete Landau I presume?? Range ended up in court with Lind in Australia and I think it ended that Range had to pay them $7million. There was definitely an acrimonious relationship there. You've hit the nail on the head - as long as we can pay off the loan in cash, we will be fine, but Rufus needs to come up with the financial summary of how all this coal is going to make itself pay to settle the market. At the moment our BoD is doing nothing to build confidence back in the share from an operational profit perspective and, until they do that, I fear we'll be sat at all time lows. GLA

larry - do a quick internet search on RNS Number 9218F - it's purely to do with their merger with SP Angel. There was an article in ************* about two weeks ago.

areyousure - there are a few other shares where there was an RNS at the end of last week, so I assume that they are finishing on 1 February 2019. It's undoubtedly yet another example of EDL's BoD being slow with news...….GLA

And my point is what do the Disclosure Trading Regulations state (fact) in relation to percentage holdings of trading entities, parent companies, ultimate holding groups etc? It sounds like neither of us know, so how do we know Advent don't have access to more than 3% as it is spread across separate equity funds that are owned by separate funds / companies. I agree with you that we should deal in clear facts as much as possible. GLA

Analysister - have you checked the FCA DTR to clarify how holdings companies etc work in relation to notifications of shares?

John - what we really need is for Rufus to tell us we can exist as a going concern and we are actually making a profit, however small. We can mine and sell as many tonnes of coal as we like, but if we're doing it at a loss, there is no future. GLA

Analysister - it's an interesting one. I'm not sure whether technically a number of Advent's equity funds could each hold under three percent as they are separate trading entities under an ultimate holding company thereby collectively Advent have access to a much higher percentage stake. I'd need to do a bit more research. With regards to the value of a takeover bid, I can't see any bid under 225+ being acceptable to the BoD or LTHs. My money is still on HCA taking us out as opposed to MDC. GLA

I think the cat has inadvertently been let out of the bag. Advent would never come out and say "yes, we're quietly building a stake for a takeover" as the share price would rocket. They have the advantage of being able to do things under the radar with their associated investments - they did exactly the same with Laird, drawing down equity (you can replace that with the word shares too) from their funds. Look at the rise yesterday on pure speculation. Looking back through Laird it does have quite spooky similarities with the share price decimated from c£4 to c£1.20 and then a c75% "premium" being offered for a takeover at £2. In which case I'm going for a 225p per share buyout for Spire, IMHO. I see MMs are desperately trying to keep the lid on the price today.....GLA

Mulder - aren't Advent International buyout specialists? Something is definitely brewing in the background and someone, Mediclinic or ANO, has probably been building a nice quiet stake of investment "friends" who are probably all sitting just below the RNS threshold for holdings. Big rise so far today. GLA

Mulder - might be an interesting two weeks here; I see MDC share price appears to be staging a bit of a recovery too. 2nd resistance point for us looks to be just under 128, so we could do with holding the current rise and close above it. GLA

There's no way MDC could match a bid from HCA. I think things are going to get interesting here shortly. GLA
