The pre-results SP rise yesterday just shows you how much inside information leaks out about any large company in advance of major announcements. A 50% cut in (an already modest) dividend is not going to push me into selling and at least the move is decisive rather than incremental. It is the absence of a 6th profit warning that has really pleased the market though. Today will see those who gambled on taking large positions at just under £5 bail out with their profits, so I expect the price to settle back during the day.

We won't see any improvement here until LG stop getting hammered on the NASDAQ.

RR one of the few shares to finish up today. Perhaps the rumour mill is turning and there will be no profit warning tomorrow plus an announcement of a modest dividend cut to appease the markets?

"some people have views that make RR sound like it is on its last legs" Who are these people? I certainly have not read anything on here along the lines of "get out now, this is going bust!". Far from it, the vast majority of postings are fair and factual accounts of media/brokers/institutional investor reactions to the current plight of the company. I have seen no blatant de-ramping of RR on this board so far.

Depends on your view as to what contitutes "short term". Fine if you want to die holding RR paper, that is up to you. The problems that RR are currently facing could take 5-10 years to sort out and things could get very much worse before they get better. Myself, I can hold for 10 years no problem, but others will need to access their investment portfolio for income purposes long before that. In short, the current problems and the media comments on it are very relevant to many on here. if you choose to ignore them fine, but don't criticise others for posting news/opinion on here.

Very sobering piece about management failures and poor decisions in past years. Opinion is that a dividend cut is inevitable and that a sixth profit warning with results is not ruled out. Lukewarm on a rights issue though.

Thanks for posting that Gerry557. The dividend cut I can see coming and provided that the share price recovers I will take the hit. The fundraising is less likely as the city would take a dim view of using shareholders money and diluting institutional holdings in order to hide potential shortcomings in management. Also these wee analyst p****s are always trying to get media attention in order to further their own largely parasitical careers (rant over).

It seems to me that when GSK is in a slump, AZN seems to be on the rise and vice versa! Now that GSK has perked up a bit on the back of their trading update it is AZN's time to suffer at the hands of the market.

Payment is 43p not 40p as stated in previous posts.The Board has declared a fourth interim dividend of 23 pence per share (Q4 2014: 23 pence per share) and a special dividend of 20 pence per share. The ex-dividend date for both the fourth interim and special dividends will be 18 February 2016 , with a record date of 19 February 2016 and a payment date of 14 April 2016.

Only good news yesterday, but we are well down. Coincidentally, Blackrock announce their holding has gone over 5%. Could this be shorting as predicted by Morgan Stanley based on RR exposure to BREXIT? Seems funny we plummett on the day that Cameron announces his EURO deal.

Great news! Rolls-Royce has announced a $2.7bn (£1.9bn) order to manufacture and service Boeing 787 Dreamliner engines for Norwegian. It will provide its Trent 1000 engines for 19 new Dreamliners.Today's deal is some welcome positive news for Rolls-Royce, which has seen its share price tumble by more than a third over the last year.

Iran is buying 118 airliners from Airbus including 12 A380 superjumbos. If I remember rightly the engine of choice on the big one is the RR Trent? So depending on Iran Air's powerplant preference RR could gain some benefit from this deal. Not sure about the engines on the rest of the planes but 73 of them are wide bodied, which excluding the 12 380s, leaves another 61 requiring engines from somewhere, maybe some of those will also be RR powered?

RR has announced the loss of a up to a "few dozen" managers from the 2000 strong senior management team. Elsewhere, Avingtrans PLC announced that its Sigma Components aerospace business has acquired the internal pipe manufacturing unit of blue-chip engine maker Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC. Avingtrans will pay GBP3.5 million to acquire the unit. Both bits of new relatively minor in the grand scheme of things, so no surprise the SP has not rallied on this news!

Royal navy frigates have to be retrofitted with additional kit to prevent frequent loss of electrical power during service. Work to be conducted by BAE systems/RR. Will this be penalty clause type work carried out at no cost to MOD due to shortcomings in kit provided by BAE/RR or be fully paid work for the two companies? If the latter, it is good news for them as this is a multi-million pound job which will take a number of years to complete as work must be staggered to maintain ships in service at all times.

RR is amongst a set of stocks which JP Morgan is advising investors to sell short as a hedge against BREXIT risk. All have low UK domestic earnings relative to european/worldwide exposure and will thus be subject to downward pressure as the referendum draws nearer.

AstraZeneca, GSK and Johnson & Johnson have joined with three leading British universities to create a new 40 million pounds ($57 million) fund backing early drug research. The Apollo Therapeutics Fund, which aims to improve the speed and potential of university research being translated into new medicines, is a further example of a trend by Big Pharma to tap into academic science in the hunt for treatments.

According to Sunday Times "The London arm of the New York-based fund is understood to have approached Glaxo chairman Sir Philip Hampton two months ago and urged him to shake up the board. Its call adds to pressure on Hampton to lay plans for the eventual departure of Witty and finance director Simon Dingemans."

An activist investor has taken a "secret" 0.5% stake in GSK using derivatives to hide this and keep their name off the register of shareholders. According to Sunday Times this will increase the pressure on the GSK board to get rid of Witty and consider breaking up The company into four separate businesses.

Oh dear! bad timing mate or what. If you sold at 63 you would have been 4.4% better off if you had waited until today. Depends on your entry price, but if you did manage to get out at 63p with a significant profit then well done.
