TFE The reason people are preoccupied by the dividend is straightforward, Its called "income" and if you are along term holder you are not necessarily troubled by short term declines in SP, but simply interested in the yield and its stability. The further away you are from retirement the more likely you are to roll over the income by reinvestment and thus compound up. Simples

Like all commodities the market is cyclic. Let it go yes, but what happens when China/Korea/USA control ALL the rolling mill steel production worldwide and prices rise? The knock on is also very bad with a plethora of SME's in precision engineering who service the Mills. Most of these are located in and around Sheffield so this will hurt them really badly. Most have diversified into aerospace fabrication and advanced alloys, but still depend on the steel industry for 40%+ of their earnings.

Apparently we own 39% of this absolutely useless company. After today's shocking headlines I assume they will not be contributing much to the bottom line at National Grid!

I see no point in buying more of these at present until the short interest has declined and there seems to be some stability and upward momentum. The yield is still far better than the banks and there are other income stakes to build in the meantime for the long term. Same with VOD and the other likely dividend cut to come at CNA.

Stagecoach, I do not think people were feeling sorry for JO. However, they were feeling sorry for the 1300 (mainly young) people who have just lost their jobs as a result of the failure. Most of them will no doubt be plodding up and down our streets in Deliveroo garb in the next few months as they join the so called gig economy.
