Marshall Wace lost a few million £ in THG with their nearly 2% short that they've reduced down to 0.4% short just in the past few weeks at a circa 40% loss - Indeed, it makes you wonder what they know? They'll probably end up losing 100% of CPI, before their CPI short team gets a kick up the back-side to close it. ;-)

I'm only but speculating, but maybe there's some movement on an asset sale in the Portfolio division?

No, I still don't see an issue with what they did and all that did was create agood foundation for where it is now. They raised cash in the RI and saved the company - CPI would've certainly been bankrupt without that raise. Covid happened and they pivoted to asset sales to pay debt off and CPI is now in an enviable position of being financial net debt free by H1 this year. I don't mean to come across as being uber blasé to the pain experienced by long standing/suffering shareholders though and those holders have my sympathy, but I've made my investment here based what I see as a turnaround that is in full flight, albeit with a speed-bump now. Stuff happens and that's what creates opportunities in the market.
I can't predict where CPI goes near-term should US recession concerns take hold and take down the broader market with it, but a growing UK/European economy is a good tailwind for CPI.

Good luck with your investment thesis that is seemingly based on backward looking metrics - I live in the real investment world and base my picks on in favour sectors/turnaround/value stories. One of us will come up trumps and I believe that'll be me. ;-)

TM1 - I don't really care about what they did back in 2017/18 during the rights issue. I wasn't invested back then and can't really give a toss if it cost you money. Capita was going under if they didn't raise money back then, and could've gone under if they didn't sell assets over th past 2-3 years. I base my investment thesis on what I see going forwards and that's what markets are, a forward looking discounting mechanism, albeit a rather inefficient one here in the UK. Even with the current hacking speed bump, that'll be Passe, and will be in the rear-view in time, and I personally look forward to good/outsized returns in the coming months/years. Who knows, maybe you'll too make some money back some day in the distant future if you're still in on the long side of the trade?

@Dave_1 - it's zero surprise to me what you wrote about FearFul's lies and obfuscations. His MO is plain as daylight for everyone to see. With that silly all-knowing attitude and thinking that he can actually influence the markets through his perpetual posting of negative snippets on here, I hope the market continues to shaft him, as it should. ;-)

It's highly embarrasing that Times had a pick up a quote by someone on here a couple of weeks ago, and actually reproduce that quote in their article. Financial journalism isn't what it should be!!

If CPI has to fall from here and give FearFul his buy point, it has to be along with the broader market if the economic downturn in the US takes hold. However, this could be balanced by asset sales and better operational execution at CPI. That's the two opposing forces at play - we'll just have to see how these play out in the coming weeks.

Jobless 'Times' has another weekend article expressing exasperation over Capita's lack of forth-rightness in their response, but I am of the view that their comms have been as they should be - I take the other side of transparency in this scenario - we don't need other bad players to figure breach mechanisms and keep probing on those fronts. Keep at it, CPI, but keeping executing well operationally. You have my backing.

It was a high-volume up-day today and that speaks well to CPI share possibly leaving the ransom episode behind a behind. I'm not suggesting that we're in the all-clear fully, but a sale news/new wins in the coming weeks will be really helpful. Good luck holders - lets go shaft the shorts!!!

I broadly agree with that characterisation, DD123.. FearFul got lucky initially with the Hacking faux pas, and now has gotten very greedy - fear and greed, two sides of the same coin. He's a basement flat pumper/dumper, and best to ignore his mind-numbing posts.

Here's what I will say - CPI will move with the market until disposal news/new wins news comes out. I wait patiently.

Kevin Beaumont has been critical of the initial messaging from Capita, but complimentary of the actions to prevent major data exfiltration. Cyber Ransoms are a fact of life and doubling up of employee engagement to flag/identify phising attempts early is paramount.

CPI assumed that they prevented any exfiltration of data when they prevented the big attack on 31/03, but lkmited exfiltration has happened for circa 9 days prior to that. That tells you of the hackers' relative sophistication/disguise. but also this could've been a lot worse, and the upside is that it wasn't. Lessons learnt and there will be doubling of efforts to prevent such attacks in the future. CPI needs to focus on operations (and will), and in parallel take additional steps to customers in the know , in a transparent fashion.

If you look through the short term noise, and sh*it happens all the time, it's a great lesson learnt for Capita and things move forward and employees will be made sure they're on their toes all the time. We're put through the wringers all the time working in a software environment, but with that abundant caution, things can get sour when you least expect it. Look forward a few months from this point in time, and you'll probably be wondering what that fuss was all about!!! IMO..

Thanks, Nic. The response is as it should be - the best way to do deal with this is to isolate and contain the hack with a view to minimise data exfiltration, and that's what they're focused on. No doubt there will be an enormous emphasis on online security protocols from herein onwards, but we just need to keep our fingers crossed that the 'damage' was minimal. We now await contract wins and disposal news!!

DD123, sadly Fearful is understanding challenged. I own some THG - it's one of my recovery plays, but then it was a 700p share in 2020 and hit 30p last year. Only in a warped mind is a share that's dropped 95% in 2 years, a share that keeps giving. Apollo's bid may be some good news, but operationally, they're still in the dumps. If FearFul can't trust JL, I'd take that as a good sign. ;-) It's plain bad luck that CPI is in this hole, albeit a small hole hopefully, but things will fall in place in the coming weeks. As long as they're still carrying on with their operations, normalcy will return. And that's the ultimate determinant of where the SP will be in a few weeks/months.
