RE: Bid junkies17 May 2023 18:18
MM doesn't inspire confidence at all, IMO. I hope he can get a handle on costs and turn this shop around, but it's still a show me story. I expected the stock price to fall into the 50s should the bid be rejected, and I suppose its accumulate time for the patient ones. Many who were singing MM's praises last week have jumped ship, and that shows how A. incorrect their expectations were about how much a PE firm like Apollo would pay for a company like THG which has been undervalued by the market and B. how sure they were that MM would be the saviour near-term that he hasn't turned out to be. I hope he can step out and execute operationally in the coming months, and that could/should set the SP on a positive trajectory going into 2024.
Near term - who knows? If the US debt ceiling issue doesnt get resolved, it could tip the markets into a period of short term downturn, a la 2011. If THG falls more, I'll add more. It's not a bad place to be adding more, acknowledging that there could be another small leg lower. Don't bottle it, Matt. Focus on delivering FCF in 2023 and the market will reward you and the long suffering shareholders!!
