Yes, if you look at them in isolation that makes sense, but look at the wuder context.
Who hurts the most from cheaper oil? Russia. Who benefits the most from cheaper oil? The US and West generally, a few shale producers hurting is way outbalanced by the boost to consumers.
And the US has influence in the Kingdom, who will be worried about ISIS and about Iran's rapprochement. So they just might - I say, only might - be playing a geopolitical game here to teach Vlad a lesson .
I'm not saying this is definitely what's happening, might be rubbish. But it seems quite a coincidence that after a fairly stable oil price for the last 6 years it suddenly fallsat this time, just when the US needs to pressure Russia.
Who knows.
