Just back from watching Scream (25th anniversary think it was advertised as!?).
That's maybe 3 or 4 times I have been over last few years to see an old film at cinema.
Somewhat surprised each time jist hoe strongly they are attended.
About 2/3 or so full tonight.
Shows that there is a place for occasionally picking the "right" older classic and getting a good attendance for that one off screening.
Very busy again in foyer tonight as everyone keeps reporting here UK is back (currently at least) pretty strong.

Now if we can get the USA up in next few weeks/couple months and maybe that " 0 - 0 draw" in court case.
It's sort of where I have felt for last few days court action we were/are heading.

Fingers crossed, I will admit to still being nervous by the court action.

I don't recall anything of note during our sustained fall from 124p to 57!?p

4th highest also means 2nd lowest of all Daniel Craig movies.
Considering the passage of time if you were to adjust for inflation then it's VERY easy to alsoale a case to say it has NOT done well.
Also as plumber notes re end totals.
For the movie it's important to note China is to come which should help global box office.
Does nothing (of note) for us though.

Smalltrader I would say demand is "coming back".
While 70% is improving I disagree that it's massive and it is NOT enough for this business given its financials and what has been made very clear by Mooky (if anyone was unable to figure out for themselves given our debt pile and servicing costs , 70% is better than months we have had so far but not enough).

I hadn't heard that. As I say last I heard from proceedings was Cine using less of their witnesses.

What's your "reasonable" explanation?
You seem to be suggesting we are in a far better position now, yet near half share price.

LPD are they still coming forward as part of our defence?
I recall maybe 2 days back in proceedings that our Legal team stated we were calling a number less of our "witnesses" as they were aware of the overrun so far and to ensure case come back withing time constraints.

Small I would be delighted if we reach 80 - 90% US box office this month (it's our best chance as we have an "extra" weekend compared to 2019.
Downside of that is we are "short" a weekend then I'm the November comparison.
I think this months movie slate is also stronger/deeper than next month's and November also c.$200m more to achieve than October.
Mind majority of overall revenue is Fri - Sunday (the weekend) and we have had 2 of our 5 of them.
Can see 70 - 80% for sure being possible. Think we may yet struggle to hit 90% even for this "favourable" month.
Hope I am completely wrong and we smash past 90% for this and coming months.

Yip it's now shown as weak opening for Daniel Craig Bond in our biggest (by far) market.
Still decent amount flowing into the coffers.
A further month on month v 2019 improvement most likely but on the lower levels of where business wanted to/needs to be.
Not great, but not disastrous.

Recovery ongoing, just likely slower than some forecast.
Please oh please let's get this court case wrapped up favourably (we can cope with a bit longer recovery. Not sure we can cope if court case was to go against us).

Considering the attention given to the UK on this board and the relevant sizes of the areas for the business I don't think it is flawed logic at all to suggest we on this chat board should FAR more pay attention to US box office performance than the hundreds and thousands of posts here on UK.

If for example the UK returns to 100% pre covid levels with improved concession levels and all other improvements yet USA say ran at 65% we would NOT be in a good position.

However if those were reversed and USA returned to 100% and UK 65% it would be a MASSIVELY different scenario for the company.

Yes LPD this Q shows signs of having more depth and also more big movies and hence attendance.

Please don't keep focusing on the UK though as you are smart enough to know the focus should be on USA , it's attendances and box office.
That has NOT for any meaningful period of time (yet) been at the levels you quote.
This Q is starting in that sort of range, but it's one week old. We need months of it and higher.
As yet nothing is showing us hitting c. 90% pre-pandemic for this quarter.
It's relatively early days and there has been a steady increase. Just there is yet a way to go.
First week of Q was as I noted little over 70% we need that and MORE.

As I have said more than once I feel Cineplex done wrong especially regards the debt.

HOWEVER!! As clear as this "seems" to all of us, I won't pretend we are smarter than both parties legal teams.
Therefore why was this not settled out of court??
Legality can be/is often very complex so I won't roll any big fat cigars in celebration just yet.

Bond is doing well and will with others help Q4 be the recovery period we need to start giving all in industry confidence again.
I don't think it is hitting some of the upper claims you were predicting LPD, but none of us get everything right and it is probably to be considered a "success" on box office when we see where it ends globally.
How much of a success is to be confirmed by weeks/months of attendances.

Looks like a solid Bond opening in USA, but maybe not the levels some forecast or a match for Marvel (maybe should be expected).
Suggesting $60m - $70m.
Very good, but not of that Marvel levels.
Be interesting when we have more detail of how this weekend pans out.

Mountainous what is you qualifications in this particular legal field?
It's difficult to get an unbiased view from people here mostly invested in one of the parties.
IF and I say IF Cineplex claim is they did not breach. Then they are exactly right to go down the route they have of Cineworld not being able to finance the deal and looking for ways out as they claim (rightly or wrongly).
Has Cineworld proved their case?
Has Cineplex proved there's?
I don't have the particular legal qualifications to judge.
If you or anyone else here does then great (still does make the Judges decision guaranteed, but gives us all better idea)

Following on this theme.
Q4 is fairly constant in recent years historically producing X. $2.9bn for the 13 week period.
That's an average $223m/week, so it's easy to then see what we want to be witnessing week on week for the next 12 weeks in these US box office numbers to get to the levels Mooky and Cineworld have regularly stated they want/expect to see.
Getting closer, but we still want/need better than last week every single week as an average.
Following this closely as probably the best and most relevant performance barometer we have.
We can't "measure" the court case so this is best thing we can measure/evaluate in my opinion.

Bonks I am often up late night and up early morning to be fair don't follow many others "regular" patterns.
First cinema visit this week tonight since my midnight Bond last week.
Friday night so would expect place busy. I was at Adams Family and while I assume most were at Bond this was also very well attended (family movie).
Place seemed very busy, but box office details we can all access has told us for number weeks now that UK is back strong.
It's US we are (or should) be strongly focused on and thankfully that's showing signs of starting that real recovery journey but one or two weeks/one or two movies is still too early to say with certainty.

With us effectively having that "extra" weekend I personally would expect and definitely hope we surpass this level by month end comparison.

Can we see this or even a bit more for US box office this month!?
That would see the industry in our key market reach circa 75% like for like period v. 2019.
First week just gone banks c. $160m and is 73.78% v same week 2019 (venom carnage v joker).
This weekend and week coming was $202m v last week (2019) of 217m so to maintain last week's level we need in region of $150m for the week.
I would hope with Bond release and still some strong demand for Venom as it enters its second week that we can see that and maybe but more.

Two days we will have a decent idea if we will or not.
Seven days we will know for sure.
Each day also brings us closer to court case end and then an outcome.
Views are fine, certainty wins out when it comes to share prices.
