I think many are reading WB move wrongly.
Personally I do not think they are committing to streaming all future movies at expense of cinema.
For me they have seen near a full year of not being able to free up cash invested in films and while they still now and future value the cinematic release they have to taken action to as they see it at this precise moment in time give some certainty.
So vaccines are essentially still to really start rolling out, most vaccines still to either be authorised or even still finalised trails and then be authorised before they even start roll out.
Roll out then needs to reach sufficient levels to see real change in infections and deaths.
So as of the time they made decision nobody could GUARANTEE a specific date in near - mid future that major markets could see significant returns to crowds.
So they have enabled viewing public, themselves AND cinema operators certainty in otherwise uncertain times.
There are movies and release dates for a whole year ahead.
Now if there is significant progress with vaccines and rates drop off cliff of hospitalisation and death say late spring/early summer and people are freely able to go back to full or near full theatres, pubs, sporting venues, cinemas I feel WB may well adapt as current conditions allow and revert to the exclusive theatrical releases we have been previously used to.
All IMHO.
Time and how events unfold will show these thoughts to be right or wrong.
