That shape is exactly 25k different from half Teck’s reported holding on the HZM webby, so I’d guess Ivor was right and it is Teck’s stock. Good news for us that someone was happy to pay7.30. If it’s a new buyer it’s under 3% of the co so no immediate notification

When you ask your broker for a price electronically it is routed to all the the MMs (unless your broker is so dodgy the MMs won't give them access!) via RSP.
One of the windows on the MM's screen will show all the RSP enquiries coming in. The MM won't manually respond to these, but his/her system will return a price based on some formula nearly always relative to the L2. It might typically be an improvement on the price based on a percentage (that is set by the MM) of the bid/offer spread. so if you ask your broker for a bid indication, that will go to the market makers and if the best MM bid on RSP is set to be an improvement of 60% of the bid offer spread, you will see a bid above the middle.

I don’t share your optimism regarding press coverage.

It looks like there was a period where the market offer was below the mid. During this time all trades wil be shown as customer sells, because any trade below the mid is marked red and any trade above the mid is marked blue.

The best indicator of the balance between buys and sales is the price.

Like I keep saying, this share will do well when it finally makes a sustainable profit. This update almost reads like an attempt to prepare us for bad news.

Excellent commitment

Market makers are generally - though not always- in the business of keeping positions (and therefore risk) low while buying and selling to make money, rather than taking strategic speculative positions. They won’t buy 10% of Teck’s position if they know that every other market maker is also buying 10% of Teck’s position. The market would be absolutely stuffed with stock and the price would only go one way.
No broker who had the remotest care about their reputation would stuff the market like that.
Where can you see the share register please? It would be an unusual MM who was happy to tie up £1.4m of their book cash limit on a single AIM stock.

Not necessarily - if the mkt knows there is a seller of 5.5% around it might have a negative effect

No MM is going to buy 210m ! The market will want to buy the last tranche of a big sellers order, not the first.
Also, if a MM wants to buy some, they can get what they want by just getting on the bid. And They’re not going to pay Teck 7.30 while they are 7.00 offered in the market.

When Sepanta Dorri joined the board Teck had 14.5% I think. They didn’t participate in placing, as you say, so now down to 5.5%. It wouldn’t be that much of a surprise if it turned out that they didn’t see HZM as a core holding going forward.

We don’t know. It seems to be a possible explanation for the appearance of the order on the screen, but it’s highly unlikely they would hand out a firm order to sell the lot at a fixed price above the market.

If anyone was trying to sell 210m shares the last thing they would do would be to stick an order for the whole amount on the book. Whoever put it on there, if there is an order in the background, will have got a massive b0110cking.

They can’t stop a rights issue. A rights issue issue gives every holder the opportunity to participate. They can, however, stop a placing that does not give every holder an equal opportunity to participate.
