If someone is contracted to work overseas, they are normally on what is termed an 'ex-pat' contract, which means they pay tax and ss to their home country for a period not exceeding 5 years ( this can vary upon localisation deals) after which point they must pay into the 'local' system tax and SS/NHI. That being said, income tax is paid at the higher rate, the home country takes it's share and the balance forwarded to the 'host' country. These double taxation rules have been negotiated and in place for decades now.

Dustyslayer, if war broke out and the UK was hit as part of that conflict, people would very quickly change their mind about wars. That can be said of any country's citizens. But as it happens to 'them over there', people don't stop to think about it.

The outages are a 'connected' problem. The power supply and ability to produce power was and is still there (albeit, not enough). What we all need is autonomy from other grids within the continent. Also I suspect the constant networking and interconnection of these pose a major flaw in it's daily operational functions. Some things do not need to be connected to the internet, etc.
