If you are mentoring young people and encouraging them that is a gift, keep it up.

You are doing good work, young people need a 'lift' these days, they have information overload (don't we all?) and need to know that there are possibilities.

Bottom line, pay actually is pathetic these days.

When I left school I was on about £12k a year plus a second weekend job. Then landed a role that was made for me. £50k p/a tax free. 1988.

Making that plus 'bonus' until 1992, then started to make £75k+. Bought my first house that was just over 1 years salary in late 80's.

Can they do that today? No, they are smart enough to know that, the young are not even interest in cars much as they see it as another expense, they are not wrong.

Now, tell them they are not motivated or lazy, having a degree means that you are NOT lazy, just motivated a different way for different reasons...

Bravo, 100%. The young know their worth, as you said, they are not lazy, they are smarter than we were, they are not falling for the 'work hard and you will be rewarded' rubbish. They see the work place is shifting, they are viewed as less than their worth.

As the older generation we were conned into servitude, into a belief system that said you would be rewarded if you toiled hard, that did not work out for most people. The young can see the lies.

More importantly, you pointed out the biggest flaw in the system, tapering of benefits. Instead the DWP is an 'all or nothing' system. Just over broke and they cut off all your benefits, now you are worse off for working...

Wastage also applies to this current government and probably the next lot. Until there is complete accountability, nothing will change. So bend over and be a good boy, or go get your pitchforks and march on government.

If a small business has employees, they pay the employees, then what is left is TAXED. Increasing wages by 4.1% does NOT come out of the companies bottom line (unless things have changed in the last 18 years) THEN tax on income of said business is applied. It just means the government gets 4.1% less from said small business owner in taxes.

On another note, tax thresh hold should be increased to a minimum of £15k, before the lowest rate is applied.

Wastage and over spending by proceeding governments in the wrong places and sometimes never even knowing where those money pits lie, is the problem.
