IK, Regarding Iran,
I think it is a fair analogy to ask you to imagine the UK being run by a strong Labour party and a weak Conservative party at the same time and the Labour party being free to adopt the fairy tale policies on spending put forward at the last election campaign.
Iran is run by a government that tries to apply moderate financial strategy dealing with what's left after the sanctions imposed by the west and the wholesale spending by the Revolutionary Guard. It is also ruled by the Revolutionary Guard who take the lions share of Iran's income a large amount of which is spent stirring up trouble in the Middle East to the detriment of the ordinary Iranian man, woman and child. I am not saying the Labour Party would have used the lions share of the UK budget to stir up trouble in the Middle East they would have just run us into debt like they did last time with the same resulting effect. At least we are able to make changes after five years, generally through fear the Iranians are not.
It is the Revolutionary Guard controlled by the late General Qasem Soleimani that Trump is after.
The Iranian oilfield personnel I have come into contact with over the years I found to be good natured, intelligent, friendly people but who find themselves in awkward situation.
If you don't mind IK I would like to state Sir Winston Churchill's definition of a pacifist when referring to the arrogant predecessor of his Neville Chamberlain. "A pacifist is one who feeds a crocodile hoping it will eat him last"
Much off topic I know but I thought worth mentioning.
