well it was a wildcat exploration well outside of closure and we did farm out and we do have two more covered by Spirit this year (hopefully) and id did show a light oil presence (not tarry gloop/ diddly squat) ....let's see what Dr Tease has to say on 11th re. the poorly connected section they drilled into and what went on re 'casinggate'

the Halifax problem with finds was a matter of drill fluids chemically reacting with the rocks (as I recall from HUR's explanation) used for overbalanced drilling (using heavy mud to prevent blowout until they better understood from experience how heavily drills would be mudded in future) that is a separate issue and probably not relevant to this well as they will have changed to a different mud. In current well there is still technical risk re. a successful outcome because the well is horizontal so very great care is needed to ensure they get the chips of rock out of the bottom section while drilling. The well could still be a very large and significant discovery confirming oil in place, but if drill is bungled it may need to be re-entered and/re-drilled later - just guessing!

when drilling horizontal section, can there be problems getting the drilling mud out?

...would prefer to see some cryptic references to Cillit 'Boom'? come on peeps more clues! ps the cleanup you refer to was due to wrong type of mud used and they've since had time to work out what to do in this drill re mudding up

think you are on the right track re need for 'coil' casing....but am guessing that the 'schoolboy howler' may have been NOT using it from scratch on the drill? also reckon will need to be a 'smart well' due to high (and possibly variable) pressure oil and gas so coil casing definitely required to house gadgetry for management thereof ...?

...if they have a 'dual' gas and oil find in this exploration well are Spirit obliged to put in the gas well/s while the rig is on site?

....there was mention of good quality layer of sandstone over the basement and shallower gas wells drilled in addition to the oil.........is Dr Tease trying to tell us something?

I guess it takes a while for the rate of production at wellhead + Aoka Mizu processing/storage + Amundsen Spirit offloading tanker loading up + offloading of Amundsen + refinery uptake to all be smoothly 'in step' with one another so that the well can flow at a perfect rate

I guess what we need to watch therefore is the time between Amundsen's docking with AM to see how quickly the production is being cranked up.....but there may be delays if Amundsen goes off to do something else we don't know about or has to be inspected for something etc etc

the rate at which Amundsen loads is exactly that...not rate at which the oil is being produced out of the ground (and we know they are starting out to a low rate before carefully cranking it up to full blast)....so watching Amundsen load up just tells us when she gets to AM how long it will take to land a full load.
