President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that his administration will give the first lithium concessions in his Administration to the state company Litio para México (LitioMx) on February 19.

In a morning conference , López Obrador commented that this weekend he will visit a place in Sonora called La Ventana. Where is the most important lithium mine. He added that the first concessions will be delivered to the national company LitioMx.

The president pointed out that they are going to work in collaboration with the private company that already exploits the area in Sonora.

“We are going to go to La Ventana, which is the lithium mine, where concessions are going to be delivered to a national company,” López Obrador said.

LitioMx has also approached companies from the United States and Canada that have shown interest in associating, in addition to companies from other parts of the American continent, however it preferred not to detail whether Tesla, which is about to install a factory in the country, would be among those conversations.

incidentally there would need to be a big scale up of the mine if Tesla / LitioMx choose to get involved. That is where the JVs could become extremely valuable.

The conditional deal with Tesla lapsed a long time ago. e.g "There can be no assurance that the conditions to supply product under the supply agreement will be met" but it does highlight the fact that they are well aware of the project and were willing to buy from it and will have had samples.

It's not out of the question for Tesla to have a second pit and processing plant as per the previous scoping study using their own extraction "just add salt" technique all from our 30% owned areas as Ganfeng and Hanwa will still want their supply on top of any deals with Tesla.
