The US Agency for Trade and Development (USTDA) has just awarded a grant to the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development to carry out a feasibility study to evaluate the construction of a LNG terminal and a regasification facility for liquefied natural gas (LNG) connected to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline (MEG). The completion of this study was entrusted to the American company Lixia Capsia Gestionis LLC, which will evaluate potential sites for the development of this project. This involves the development of a LNG import terminal, a regasification facility that could produce up to 5.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, and a pipeline connecting the MEG pipeline terminal.
With the main objective of meeting the growing demand for natural gas in Morocco, this project will also create new business opportunities for US companies, according to Thomas R. Hardy, USTDA Conference and Public Affairs Director. As for the Moroccan ministry, it said that, as part of the Moroccan energy supply, gas plays an important role in the diversification and security of energy. The feasibility study will therefore provide the Moroccan authorities with factual information on the future role of LNG in implementing the country's energy strategy.
Lixia Capsia Gestionis CEO Matthew Meredith said: "We look forward to working closely with the Government of Morocco, represented by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, to advance the goals national energy systems ". Stephanie A. Miley, Chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy, supported the US government's support for Morocco's efforts to provide reliable and efficient energy to its citizens, welcoming the excellent cooperation between both countries, in the energy sector as in other areas. As a reminder, the USTDA supports companies in creating jobs in the United States by exporting goods and services used in development projects in emerging economies. The USTDA connects US companies with export opportunities, funding project preparation and partnership-building activities that develop sustainable infrastructure in partner countries.
