The harbour wall slopes upwards at the end, hence finger hole pully uppy, not slippy downy.

Hi Sooz. Yes, I’ve been there a few times. They are dangerous now aren’t they, as I think there was a collapse of rock there a while back, aye, probably safer when we were younger and fearless.

Not that you aren’t still fearless. Lol.

I used to walk along the harbour wall in Newquay and when you get to the end it begins to slope, but there’s a finger hole, it isn’t really a finger hole, but it was to me, lol, and still is, so I used to go onto the highest bit where the crap pots were stored and get told off by the fishermen.

No sense of danger or acute peril whatsoever, and if I’d have slipped off the wall onto Towan Beach side when the tide was out, it could have been goodnight Vienna. 😂

You see, you’ve got me enthusing again now.

I like the John Buchan passage Sooz. I am not too familiar with his work, other than when I watched Robert Powell as Hannay in The 39 Steps. Lol.
