What technical challenge for Myriad Genetics to add circulating4 Sep 2025 09:08
Tumour cells (CTC's) to their existing comprehensive tests? The test(s) that they do as far as I can see are done on tissue samples they need sent to their labs. So, it follows that if they add testing CTC's they would have the person's blood sample sent in and maybe a solid tissue sample too, maybe at a later date as more time cunsuming to obtain (minor operation?). To get the CTC's from the blood sample they would need an Angle Plc Parsortix machine to filter them out. So, it is a matter of doing the test on the liquid that contains the CTC's. Note illumina and Angle have already managed to do this for lung cancer. This was RNS's months ago. Indeed, one assumes Illumina and Angle are working on other assays for performing dual analysis on other cancers. Personally, I can't imagine Myriad have not done preliminary work before doing the collaboration agreement with Angle announced last week. We know Angle have sold a few hundred Parsortix machines to numerous labs so they could have done some preliminary work without Angle even knowing about it. The turnaround time for the blood-based test would be much faster. To obtain a blood sample and send it to Myriad I should think would take around two weeks. Myriad state they take about 14 days to process the solid tissue samples. So, it's likely the blood samples would be a similar time, or faster. I think we are looking at less than 4 weeks for the analysis report. The solid tissue route is dependent on the sample (if it is possibe to get) to lab time. I think this would start at 4 weeks to get the sample and could easily be three or four months. Then add the 2 weeks processing. So, 6 weeks to five months. Note getting a solid tissue sample is not always even possible. So, the blood sample route could be the only option.
The Directors at Myriad genetics in my opinion have done a brilliant deal. One I think they can hardly believe. Their competitors should be planning what to do. The likes of Thermo Fisher could easily buy Angle IMHO.
All IMHO.
