It's to create control samples (originally from healthy donors) where you know for sure there are, for example 10 cancer cells that are HER2 positive in the blood sample (as they were introduced, or "spiked" in). So, they want a full-time person to do this it seems. Food for thought.

Begs the question why do they need a full time Phlebotomist? Looking on google in 8hrs a phlebotomist should be able to meet, greet, and obtain a blood samples from around 35 people. 5 x 35 is 175 people a week, or 700 people a month. It seems to me they either need this capacity about now, or are expecting to need this sort of capacity very soon.

Assuming a 7 Hour Day that's around 35 blood samples a day. 35 x 5 days that is about 175 blood samples a week. They either have or are expecting things to pick up considerably to employ a full time Phlebotomist.

With attention from Illumina one can assume other DNA analysis Co's are keeping an eye too. Finding about twice the number of cancer biomarkers using dual analysis as opposed to CtDna analysis alone must have got the attention of the likes of Grail, Abbot, Thermo Fisher etc....... Unless they are asleep, which I doubt!

Dual CtDna and CTC (circulating tumour cell) analysis. Angle Plc and other independent labs have found that dual analysis finds about twice (x2) as many biomarkers as CtDna analysis alone. This has got Illumina’s attention for very good reason. To make sure a person is suitable for some cancer drug treatments a solid tissue sample is tested to see if the cancer has the biomarker targeted by the drug. It the biomarker is not found the person is deemed not suitable. This test is weeks or months before the treatment is due to start. Cancers change over time so the cancer might not be suitable by the time the treatment starts. By the same token one assumes the cancer may be found have changed to become suitable. Not only are suitable biomarkers more likely to be found, the test can be done days before treatment is due to start making sure the results are up to date. Angle's Parsortix system catches live intact cancer cells from a simple blood sample, they are perfect for testing. Clearly Illumina suspect this dual testing could become the norm over the next few years.
