Moroccon update8 Aug 2015 11:46
Last evening, after business hours, I received an encouraging e. mail reply from Susan Prior Group Executive Finance Director. I will be pleased to forward the full text to Ramerci, Stockdale or anyone else interested. My request for detailed info on the production since year end will be covered in the interim results. Last years interims were published on 3 Sept.
Replacing the Country Manager seems to have been a major step. Since then local contracts have been renegotiated to bring costs down. Also the drilling operation is now far more efficient allowing COP to catch up on the planned drilling operation for 2014. Recent drilling successes have resulted in increased reserves of Gas allowing COP to retain these and look for new sales contracts for the "right volumes at the right price"
Re Tunisia an admission that the initial drill cost too much. They expect the Tunisian authorities to ratify the permit renewal and believe that the recent tragedy could have influenced the delay. Good point, the Government will have had other priorities.
Re PR, Ms Prior explained that after the release of the 2014 figure, the BOD spent 2 full days meeting with various Analysts to begin the process of engagement. A number of them advised that they are in the process of either commencing or recommencing coverage of COP. Ms Prior expects a couple of firm to initiate coverage over the coming months.
My thoughts - COP is still an exploration company as well as a successful production business. Too many recent referrasl on this board to " dusters". Its part of the game ! The BOD seem more than happy with the way things have gone in Morocco this year in both permits and have much reserves at good fixed prices. More wells to be drilled and you must expect the occasional dud.
Tunisia has been expensive but the new CEO will already have a Farm Out partner in mind and this will be announced soon after the permit renewed. Prof Green obviously got that one wrong.
The CEO understands that COP need City support and I expect to see further or increased investment from Major Investors as well as more broker coverage.
It is now obvious that the team of the 3 main directors , Susan Prior along with the Chairman and CEO have a focus on where they want COP to be in the future and are working hard as a team, to improve shareholder value. I remain a Strong Buy.
