I have no interest nor hope Russian economy is in dire straits.

I’m pointing out that to listen to some posters you think the economy has been untouched by the war and that everything is thriving.

Let’s have some realism of course it’s suffered.

I believe more Russians died during the siege of Stalingrad, than the combined number of British and American soldiers died throughout WW2.

Russia’s contribution and huge scarifice during WW2 should never be forgotten.

It means Trump wants repaying, it doesn’t mean carry on indefinitely.

Of course US wants repaying of the financial aid provided to Ukraine.

The fact Trump has suggested rare earth minerals has nothing to do with the war ending or not, they want repaying.

I didn’t hear all the speech, but the takeaways appear to be that the war is complicated to stop, hardly a surprise that.

Putin supposedly wants to meet, Trump wouldn’t confirm when he intends to meet, only that it will be after inauguration. He appeared frustrated that he needs to wait.

If project funding is $100m and a bank was to provide the finance, then over what period of time would that want to be repaid? 6-10 years?

What return would they expect? $30 -$40m

If an estimate can be made over the period any finance is to be paid, along with interest, then it allows a calculation to be made in respect of the income generated annually.

Interesting latest interview given by Zelensky.

The main comment to stand was him now being willing to concede land, although not legally, in order to achieve a peace deal.

His other observation that the lose of people was more important than the lose of land, I thought was telling.

Conceding land, but it not being legally recognised seems kicking the can down the road, something to be resolved, or not resolved at a later date. It’s amazing what becomes acceptable over a period of time.

NATO membership for the unoccupied regions of Ukraine would appear to be off the table for the foreseeable future, but Western binding security guarantees would need to be in place.

One commentator observed “Zelenskyy appears to have blinked first, Putin will be happy”

Putin commenting he believes Trump will find peace.

Appears both sides are positioning for peace talks, when those take place who knows, but to me appears sooner rather than later.
