Hey Abject, Retired accountant here, don't bother with so called financial advisers, they just take your money for telling you what you can find out for yourself. If you care to go to HMRC's own website, they make it quite plain IMO. It's actually £50,271 when the 40% rate kicks in so if your taxable income is £45,000 because the first £30,000 of rendundancy pay is NOT TAXABLE then the tax rate on it is 20%
