Housing estates designed to maximise South facing roofing, panels on each roof, local storage (VRFB obviously) to store excess during day. Max out on insulation ................... Most modern housing could be designed to be V low carbon and all it would have taken was a bit of legislation........ oh hang on, Govt seems to be incapable of that :-(
On a slightly different thread, iirc, Swansea tidal cost £1.3 billion for 320MW, Hinckley C £14 billion for 3200MW. Admittedly Swansea would only generate for 14 hours per day, but little ongoing costs.
New offshore wind is coming in at about £50 MWh the strike price for Hinckley C is >£90 MWh.......... FFS, at those levels offshore wind and large scale storage will be comparable with that.
