I know that there are now 'fast chargers' but this would still be a huge disincentive for a cab driver if they had to 'clock off' for 45 mins / 1 hr once or twice in a shift. I have not looked at it but I would expect that fast charging may come at a cost to the lifespan of the Li cells?
Now if you could get the required energy density from VRFB then 'recharging' would simply involve pulling up at the reacharging point and offloading one lot of electrolyte and refilling with fresh.
The recharging point would obviously be connected to wind / solar and would immediately start 'recharging' the electrolyte.
Now that could completely revolutionise public transport in cities!

The coal industry must be getting rattled about the cost of onshore wind falling below the cost of coal. Not to mention cheaper than fracked gas generation!

A bloke round our way was, a couple of years back, was trying to get people interested in a community energy scheme. At the time it had generous tax breaks available, which if I remember correctly had been primarily set up by Osbourne to give big money investors a large tax break. Once the community energy lot realised that they were also eligible for it and started putting in some sizeable projects the scheme was quickly pulled and as a result a lot of the projects collapsed.
A shame really as it was truly a local energy generation and usage scheme, the excess / deficit being deal with by a 100% green energy supplier. These sort of schemes would have been able to benefit massively if there was large scale storage available.

Bodes well for watching / reading Trumps probable twitter storm as his election promises in the Appalachians was 'Trump digs coal'.

If you did mean panels, surely a south facing roof with the right pitch is ideal?

Our Panels have shaved 1/3 off the electricity use? 2.5kW installation.

Indeed the carbon does reduce the albedo of clouds and importantly the ice caps. I was not suggesting that we rely on this pollution for clouds, nature does just fine in this regard.

Can you ask them if there are any potential advances in membrane technology. I could be wrong, but, is it the membrane that is limiting the round trip efficiency and possibly limiting lifetime of the cell.
