The timeline that I see (taken from KEFI, analysts and various publications such as Mining Weekly etc.)

Sep 2025 — Financial close (targeted)

KEFI has been working to sign definitive project documentation and secure their funding and lender approvals were targeted for September 2025. This triggers full construction mobilisation.

Oct 2025 → 2026 — Mobilisation & major construction

Early works (security & construction camps, roads, property surveys, resettlement Phase-1) are complete and certified, so contractors can move onto major civil works and plant construction during 2026.

Late 2026 — Commissioning begins

Analyst notes and company commentary place the start of commissioning in late 2026 (i.e., plant start-up testing and staged ramp). That timing assumes no material delays to finance or construction.

Mid–late 2027 — First gold

KEFI’s Q&A and updates continue to state a target of mid-to-late 2027 for “first gold”. Many media/analyst write-ups reflect the same guidance. This is the company’s public target — not a guarantee.

2027–2028 — Ramp to full / first full-year production (~160,000 oz)

It's good to be in early .. and hopefully no delays and / or dilution .. and two years to profitability and an upward share price

Here’s what I found out about the EthioPrefs

They are: an equity-risk instrument described by KEFI as cumulative preference shares (also called “Gold-Linked Preference Shares” in the company materials) intended for Ethiopian qualified/local investors.

The will be issued by the newly incorporated KME Ethiopia Holdings (the local project holding company).

Non-convertible — they are not ordinary shares and do not convert into KEFI ordinary equity.

Redeemable after 8 years — the instrument can be redeemed (repaid) after an 8-year period.

US$-linked — payments are linked to the US dollar (reducing local currency exposure for holders).

“Upside to the gold price” — the notes carry some entitlement to upside related to the prevailing gold price at subscription (i.e., a gold-linked upside feature).

EthioPrefs are part of the project financing package for the Tulu Kapi gold project — KEFI cites ~US$50–60m of equity and preference funding from Ethiopian and specialist African investors overall, with specific mentions (e.g. US$22m of non-convertible preference shares in some company Q&As). They sit alongside senior project debt and other equity contributions.

What it means for KEFI & investors:-

I logged on today thinking "oh no .. KEFI will have crashed" if I believed the Humble deramping posts

I recall from circa 20 years ago (interactive investor chat groups) that some companies actually advanced legal action against those who they perceived as posting things that could be readily understood or perceived as a misrepresentation and / or fraudulent activity and / or market manipulation
