Pub chain Wetherspoon said it would reduce prices on meals, coffee and soft drinks. The company has produced promotional posters to advertise food price cuts, including one called Sunak's Specials and another called Dishi Rishi.

Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin has campaigned for tax equality between pubs, restaurants and supermarkets for many years. He said: "Supermarkets pay no VAT on food sales and pubs pay 20%. Supermarkets pay about 2p per pint of business rates and pubs pay about 20p.

"A VAT reduction will help pubs and restaurants reverse this trend - creating more jobs, helping high streets and eventually generating more tax income for the government."

But he said that not every hospitality business would be able to reduce prices immediately.

"Some will need to retain the benefit of lower VAT just to stay in business. Others may need to invest in upgrading their premises.

"However, lower VAT and tax equality will eventually lead to lower prices, more employment, busier high streets and more taxes for the government."

Depends how many local boozers will leave their home delivery of beer and newly acquired addiction to the internet behind. They might be enjoying the money saved. I would suggest the new regime requires nice clean pubs and well manicured grounds to attract those that do go out and new clientelle who see a good well presented offering. Job redundancies are bound to impact and require new approaches to attract the more discerning. Off-trade will satisfy those home delivery customers which hopefully Blawat can set up direct delivery via internet orders as the empire is now big enough to cover a big geography and margins will be worth it.

The JV rns link on LSE doesn't work so put above from website. Although the JV will pay out to the two parties it is then up to Marstons to consider a dividend or not
I doubt there will be a rights issue-they occur in good times. The Tempus article said no more cash needed so hope that is right. The interims stated debt was being reduced with JV proceeds They also state: An interim dividend has not been proposed for the current period.
