This considered view - apaet from Barclay's involvement with it - is impressive but it still differs substantially from the view of 32 other regulatory authorities including those in the EU, US and Japan, who're giving it now and not suggesting a trial to see if it works.
It'll be useless in a couple of months but there's enough to say it's worth giving now and trusting that the shielders won't rush off to the Pink Coconut

The Evusheld patients can't even have vaccines - thats the point. Their immune systems are so fuc.ked that the vax would be very dangerous. So they've been shielding since bloody Feb 2020. They have nothing !!

Prof - all of these therapeutics (apart from vaccines which i know you disagree with) are now only given to at-risk patients. Healthy people probably don't need vax or therapeutics at the moment - but plenty off superfit people have been killed by Covid

And as far as the molnupiravir comments go - it's true - it gained EUA through trialing on Delta patients but nothing has been successfully EUA'd in the Omicron era in or out of hospital because it mostly doesn't kill people who weren't seriously compromised already.
You happily post the SNG LC data which is also from Delta trialists and yet you fail to point out that LC has lessened considerably with Omicron. The big 63% (ish) taste and smell improvement is utterly irrelevant with a variant that only has 13-16% of patients who suffer this symptom - let alone the LC version of it.

Let's be consistent shall we - saying our Delta data is sensational - but everyone else's is now irrelevant is pretty one-eyed

Tommy I did apologise for the error in attribution. You too are wrong about Evusheld - but it's a familiar pattern the day after promised news fails to materialise - to attack everything else already approved, whether vax oMabs or steroid or find more scare stories about variants.
We know Evusheld might stop working soon but at every stage in the pandemic we've given the drugs that work at the time to the people that need them. This has been the case since Bamlan was first authorised and then unauthorised in early 21, and is the case for many other drugs that were subsequently proven ineffective against the next variant.
The Govt has refused Evusheld as they're unsure how long it will remain effective with new variants potentially arriving.. It's a cheap and non scientific decision that 32 countries - and our own approvals agency - disagree with.

And Joey attacking it again and again when it is saving lives NOW is pathetic.

We have a variant agnostic treatment that should be available now, yet Synairgen has not managed to complete a successful tiral of its own - or persuaded anyone else to get involved with the drug. (As far as we know at the moment) Nothing that happens with SNG is related to the other approved drugs. If we'd not screwed up the trial so monumentally we'd be the new ever shield - but for now we should be grateful that other companies have got their drugs across the line and hope to god something happens soon to progress SNG.

it works now Joey and has been since given the EUA . Shielded pay particular attention to the messages about what dies and doesn’t work and the moment BQ1.1 takes over they’ll start shielding again.

This is good news at least for some of the most at risk groups. AZ selling Evusheld privately to providers for £1k a pop - and for private patients with a prescription it’ll cost that plus the profit added by the clinics doing the jabs. Lots of money if you’re struggling but you’d hope most people will be able to scrape up the cash. It’s a great decision as it will put pressure on Nice to at least pay for it for those on benefits.
It might not survive the next variant but it works now and some of these shielding people haven’t left the house in 2 and a half years

Well this could just be one arrow and they could still be hoping for STRIVE - but that statement makes it look like Synairgen agree with Joe Biden, (and disagree with everyone else in the medical profession ) in thinking the pandemic is over.

the only difference betwen today's prsentation and the already released LC data is the word "full" this not the same as the difference between Topline and Full or Full and Post-hoc. Therefore, and with a time difference of just one month between the two events -I'm not expecting anything to be added of substance. It'll add more for the the science bods I'm sure and they'll tell us if we'll still be driving the old mondeo next week - or can update it to the 2010 verson

Morning lLvelif I wasn't comparing my non scientific comments on this little share forum (although i do post my response to the science from time to time ) with those people responding without any credentials on a highly specialised subject. Everyone knows I'm a fictional Doc in any case.
My post was to draw a distinction between those with actual knowledge of the science in question - and the clinical positions to back this up - and those who just saw it as a confirmation that it was all a cover up and Fauci et al "made" covid deliberately or were complicit in it's accidental release from a Chinese lab.
The science is complicated enough without amateaurs poking theor ploitically inspired noses in. That complication evidenced by Tommyd urging caution about the authors of the study just as Joeyd throws doubt on the credentials of those rejecting it.
This story fits in with a lot of people's cynicysm about much of what happens in med science research and shows that we should be cautious about accepting anything we read at face value, unless of course it comes from an unimpeachable source such as the Daily Star's lettuce account

None of the other "big guns" are out today. They are just the co-authors of the report PM will present. I mean RM might be with him I guess if there are fringe meetings arranged

Thanks wpa5. I'm confused about Chris Brightling's relationship to the company. Is he just a respected supportive voice from another University - as suggested by his credit below in the 20th September RNS - or is he a co-author and was he a co-author when he posted those comments ?

I'm sure this is entirely normal - but seems odd to me as i definitely read his comments as a form of independent mini peer review from one of NIH's lead investigators. Or does being quoted turn him automatically into a co-author ?
