Glad it's underway at last. Confident that SNG001 will be included. S-217622 has no hospital data whatsoever - it's on as I said a short while ago because they like Protease Inhibitors and consider them variant proof. Big trial size as I also predicted - in fact even bigger - but that's easy with tabs, hopefully just as easy for SNG but it's a biggie.

Only downside is they're not targeting underlying conditions but still looking for something that will help everyone. "Signs of respiratory infection " should catch enough for SNG too - so we can be hopeful.

This is much more interesting - and actually true. Hundreds of thousands (imagine that ) of employess at Apple 's Foxconn site in Zhengzhoucoralled inside the factory after an outbreak in late October. Everyone trappped inside and many testing positive despite the company sayng there was no covid outbreak. They could seee for themselves that there was and eventually 1000s of them just packed a bag - broke down the fences and started walking home.
Anyway it's a really interesting reasd if you have a moment.

Of interest particualrly the fact that because of the constant lockdowns and the almost unbelievable fact that vaccinations weren't made mandatory in China - the country now has very low community resistance - such as that which is protecting the UK at the moment from BA5.
All that effort - and the constant disruption to millions of lives - has resulted in a huge country with no hybrid resistance - which is the best kind. Teyh'll have to keep locking down forever.

Thanks D- Geeman. Very odd. Dr Snell certainly doesn't say this in the Telegraph piece - or anything like it -but the exact line appears in the Southend article. Maybe Manifesto is a staffer on the Southend Echo.

Incidentally - it's a late win for Regencov - which finally managed to clear the infection. Luckily the patient still had the earlier strain !

I've found an account of this work - in the Southend Echo but the wording is exactly the same so it's likely they've lifted it from the Telegraph.

The reeasrch was into one patient who - as the headline says - had Covid for 411 days and other who were also ic and had long bouts of Covid. The study looks into the possibnility that VOCs are likely to emerge from immuno-compromised patients who keep a variant for long periods of time and then may become infected withion another variant

Here's the section that mattters. You'll see that Dr Snell's quote at the bottom. He - in this piece at least does not say the first line - which is what Mani quotes

Yeah - so he's not seeing new cases or anything like that he's repeating the warnings that many researchers and mnedics have made. It's a subtle difference. Too subtle for Manifesto to grasp buyt her piece spreads alarm when we know it is still only a danger when BA5 is toppled by one of the evading variants.

gunto - that's not what I'm questioning. We know the dangerous new variants will render current treatments ineffective - but it only happens when thevariant starts to infect sufficient people and takes over. The vulnerable shielders will be the last people the BQ1 or XBB gets to.
Mani's quote suggets it's happened already and clearly - in a wider community sense - this is not true.

Mani post the piece that says he and his colleagues at Guys are failing to save lives because of the new variants. That's all i ask. Is he speaking of his personal direct experiene on Covid wards and does the Telegraph piece back this up by saying that people are dying because of the new variants - which current treatments aren't working for ?

Well Fruits sorry for your friends but there's absolutely nothing to say this isn't BA5 - which is still responsible for 75% of infections. More likely is that if they're in their 40s and haven't been boosted for nearly a year. We know plenty of people who've been surprised at how hard they were hit by their latest bout of Covid - and in fact i was speaking to a young teahcer yesterday - in her late 20s - who was in bed for 5 days with it over half term.
She caught Omicron at Christmas - as many of us did ut even her BA.1 protection had waned.
My sister and brother in law were both pole-axed in the summer when they caught BA5 - having never had Covid before and it being nearly 10 months since they were boosted.
I've no idea where you live of course and you could be in a hot spot for one of the new variants but there are still just a handful of cases as far as I can see - so it's probbaly very unlikely

Despite some predictions that the growth rate of some of the new variants would see them ovetake BA5 by mid October none of them have yet been categorised as Variants of Concern.

Mani - I can't see behind the Telegraph's paywall. Perhaps you'd post a larger snippet to set the context for your quote. I suspect your dr is talking about hypotheticals rather than actual cases he's seeing and that your alarmist statement

The antibody treatments are NOT largely ineffective because those dangerous escaping variants are not yet threatening our existing defences.
All of the concern is - as ever - for a potential future - and it's a future that may not arrive.

These posts fit into the familiar round of alarmism and doomsday predictions. We survived Delta - which was the worst mass population variant and we've been lucky so far that more deadly variants have not ousted Omicron.

We all know that our chances of some kind of trial or even authorisation ought to be improved if we go back to square 1 - but the question remains why nobody else sees SNG001 in the same light.

I'm with Mani - as is very often the case. Second guessing anything to do with Polygon is utterly pointless. They liked it before Sprinter and continued liking it after. They've bought as many as they are able to without being forced to the next step, and this suggests they're still optimistic about the share's potential, and want to be sitting in the big chair when the buyout moment comes - but they also accept that it could be a bust.

It's certainly possible the next Covid season will be delayed if a new variant doesn't replace BA5 - but in general we know wards are filling up now and they will start to empty again in the Spring. It's different all over the world - countries with early exposure to BA1 - such as the UK - did much better against BA5 for the obvious reason, whereas hhe US which dodged BA1 had a bad time with BA5.
We'll see i guess. We all expected a trial by now - or at least the steps that would lead to a trial. That's the truth of it.
I'm still hopeful we will get onto STRIVE - but if we do you'd think they'd be very close to making the decision now. Everything else is cluttered and messy and could be derailed by forces beyond the company's control. Let's hope at least for a strong Democrat turnout next week.

Lots of truth in that Fruits - but there is also a tremendous amount of uncertainty in the world of Big and small pharma with partnerships abandoned and people laid off left and right.
There's also the fact that SNG needs the winter to trial - for flu and Covid at least., and that trial will be a paid trial -as Aether says - whether by Govt sponsored PT or Pharma sponsored JV. The company has the doses but not the cash for the 1000 patient trial it needs for Covid, and the UK flu trial will be even bigger.

Synairgen has the money and tools for another season in the Valley of the Kings - but only of it can find a Carnarvon to pick up the tab..
The longer we wait - with conditions perfect and months of perfect digging ahead - the louder the murmuring will grow, and the greater our concern will be that Big pharma is still not looking in our direction. .

It is not an NIHR update. It comes from the Southampton Biomedical Research Centre - which is the partnership between the 2 Soton Hospitals and funder by NIHR. And the page is old. I won't say any more on it but to take positives from a little Southampton Uni tweet is one thing - to attempt to spin it into something new is quite another.

That's from the top of the page and clearly shows it was written before Sprinter delivered - let alone post hoc. Unless its old it would be profoundly misleading to quote the line saying "SARS-CoV2 trials showed a 72% reduction in risk of COVID-19 patients developing severe COVID-19 "

The positive - if somehow it is new and just terribly written - is that Southampton Uni are putting themselves at the heart of the Synairgen story - which they were to start with but certainly weren't when the fund raise was issued.

The tweet is certainly todays, and whilst it's nice to see Southampton Uni blowing its trumpet a little, when you say "Interferon Beta central to plans is a positive sign " beneath the original link it might give someone the idea that this was new.
The linked page at the beginning of the thread is so outdated that it predates even LPD on Sprinter. Sloppy of Soton Uni to link to something so old and out of date. And to not even have updated it to include the great Sprinter post-hoc is really poor - let alone failing to mention COPD.

B2 yes for sure - but the original link is from Shinogi's website too. I didn't post the link - I'm merely hypothesising why they might be, when there doesn't seem to be any hospital evidence to suport it.
It's all very odd. Whether they are on or not, they'd certainly announce it official;y - and with NIH's b;essing. Maybe this was meant as an internal slide ?

A common theme may be that NIH are increasingly interested in Protease Inhibitors - which work by a different mechanism and is not so easily deleted by spike protein changes. Paxlovid one of the first drugs included for Recover - despite only inadvertently proving that it works later in the infection cycle than its original trials show but with data v Omicron, and unless Shinogi are pulling a rather stupid fast one, Ensitrelvir, another Protease inhibitor which also works against Omicron, included on STRIVE.
Ensitrelvir's data is outpatient but pretty solid, as it's the first drug to prove any real improvement in the Omicron world. They trialed 1800 vaccinated patients "irrespective of risk factors for COVID-19 progression" and demonstrated statistical significance. To prove anything in this way must have caught the eye of those in NIH.
Neither drug has any late stage data except that discovered when Paxlovid rebounded, and even that was not in hospital.
It's likely NIH is concerned above all else at the imminent possible deletion of its remaining Mabs and therefore PI drugs have become flavour of the month.
By this logic you'd also think it likely that Paxlovid would also be a STRIVE candidate.

Would be interesting if anyone can see if Shinogi was posting that it was on STRIVE earlier than publication of this study on September 27th.
