RE: GGP Hits 13p!28 Mar 2025 17:29
There was a bit of heated debate this morning on TG about how important the gold price was in the rise of late - but many of us agreed with Lenny in the end - who gives a fig as long as we're rising lol
Just wanted to share my thoughts on comparisons of 2020 and 2025 as I posted in TG this afternoon as really has been lovely too see many LTH are finally getting close too or back to profit and has got my philosophical side whirring away :-))
To me 2020 was a very different scenario in many regards outside the structure of the company now - many of us were just seeing profits on top of profits grow in our portfolio’s as the SP kept rising, albeit in spurts than a steady rise as we well remember.
Now in 2025… a lot of folk have been underwater and/or lost huge paper profits that could have paid for weddings, holidays of a lifetime, even houses we left on the table as they say. So for some perhaps, there is an element of releif mixed with excitement in starting to feel increasing confidence that the deal is starting to deliver ROI and the chances of getting back into profit are growing if still under.
Not everyone here had the advantage of a low average to cuddle up to, easy enough for me and other LTH to say be patient or relax when I’m not staring at a huge paper loss or having to find funds to try to average down in uncertain and challenging economic terms.
The reality is that the investment case in 2020 was a JV with a seemingly friendly and supportive partner and then as time went on, things got more uncertain and we ended up with NCM turning hostile... NEM buying them out... then divesting our key assets … fortunately Shaun securing both for us. A lot of uncertainty to live through indeed 🙂
And despite the huge amount of research and analysis in our community, not one of us had a clue that the new GGP would entail Telfer having a new lease of life perhaps for a few decades ... and Havieron being put on a ‘delayed’ roadmap that actually results in a more optimised and profitable mine life where we’ve all been seeing an accelerated development as the advantage when we thought Telfer was near end of life.
We’re bound to have more bumps along the road of course as such is life - but it’s good to see fellow passengers on the GGP Train being able to upgrade their train carriage and start enjoying the journey in more comfort. Nothing is guaranteed in life or investing but the signs are looking increasingly better for a very happy end to this year :-))
