RE: The first signs of looming ****-up with vaccine deployment1 Dec 2020 10:25
I think, as with the predictions for timeline of mass testing, the predictions of mass vaccine roll out are hopelessly optimistic. My other half is a health worker on the front line and she has only just this week received a supply of antigen testing kits (to test twice weekly). It’s December! So it has taken up to 7/8 months for that to happen.
Mass vaccine roll out to entire populations has NEVER been done before. It is a logistically challenging exercise like nothing else. There will inevitably be issues, problems, delays.
The idea we will be ‘Back to normal’ by spring is imho faintly ridiculous. Realistically we are looking, AT BEST, for mass vaccinations to start for NEXT winter 2021/22. And even that is being optimistic with this government in charge of it!
The WHO guy in charge of vaccines says that in his opinion we need around 70% of the worlds population to be vaccinated to get fully on top of the virus. That may not happen even in 2022 so Covid, like it or not, is going to be around for a long long time.
