Hi Mozy, you can see delayed news on this forum. I have live level 2 data and news streaming in from the stock market via ProQuote, your broker (if they have an on line system) will also provide it, either live or delayed depending on your account. There are also plenty of web sites offering updates outside of official releases. Reuters is a good source of business information, although I rarely search there myself.
Reading the postings here is a great way to find out current news too, if someone has a good interest in a share they'll be making others aware of it. This isn't pure altruism of course, but most posters are happy to see other people make money.
You'll find people claiming to be 'in the know' sometimes. Beware these, it's only very occassionally that someone truly has a connection inside a company. I spotted plenty going on in ULT on advfn, one lady (or named as such anyway) claiming to have all sorts of knowledge, pretty much entirely unfounded.
My current tips would be SMC (hold), TAN (buy on weakness), LNG (might be a while before it takes off after the recent rise though), POLL (for a long term investment) and SOLA (volatile, you can gain or lose quickly). I hold a few more (such as FEP if it ever comes good) but certainly wouldn't tip them to a novice. But in any case, on now account buy shares on the basis of the opinions expressed here. You REALLY have to do your own research.
