Sulzer have until the 27th April to bid or walk away from Bodycote International. The indicative bid is 325p per share and was rejected by BOY, a suggestion was that 340p would be needed to suceed. It will take a braver investor than I to buy or short this one.

There were some sells at 99p and quite a few buys at 100p (bit of a drop for anyone buying at that price) but lots of red trades just after as profit taking set in big time. Last 8 trades all buys though, at 90.4-91.0p. Current spread 88-91p (though can trade at 88.5-90.4p) and plenty of interest remains at the moment. Agree that it's a good idea to hold, perhaps with a stop loss somewhere above 80p.

88-92p at present. Still a good profit but being on a T20 I think I'll continue to hold for now. We're still above yesterdays close of 87-90p (just) so nothing lost (yet!) and more buys than sells again today. Before the last profit warning they bobbled along between roughly 100-115p so I think anything close to the lower end of that range is probably decent value.

Hit 100p and then the profit takers stepped in, now 93-97p, but I wouldn't be surprised to see another run at it. Naff all mention in the Times, just a brief comment in the market report. Anyone else find anything in other papers?

We agree on something at least. I said the same about Wimax back in August. But with BT as the last interested party it's not going to be much of an auction. SP down to 12.75-13p putting the market cap at £305m. I'm not convinced BT would need to bid 17p a share though.

An early retraction before rolling ahead, now up to 92-93p. I wonder if the optimistic predictions of passing £1 again today might be accurate...

Ah, I see, even when I get it right before hand I was only right "after the event". The Pipex announcement was that it had put itself up for sale, other posters decided that they were in a bid situation. I commented that it was only the former, big frenzy took over with the price riding up, only to fall back when everyone realised that PIPEX HAD ONLY PUT ITSELF UP FOR SALE. Are we clear yet?

Hi Mozy, you can see delayed news on this forum. I have live level 2 data and news streaming in from the stock market via ProQuote, your broker (if they have an on line system) will also provide it, either live or delayed depending on your account. There are also plenty of web sites offering updates outside of official releases. Reuters is a good source of business information, although I rarely search there myself. Reading the postings here is a great way to find out current news too, if someone has a good interest in a share they'll be making others aware of it. This isn't pure altruism of course, but most posters are happy to see other people make money. You'll find people claiming to be 'in the know' sometimes. Beware these, it's only very occassionally that someone truly has a connection inside a company. I spotted plenty going on in ULT on advfn, one lady (or named as such anyway) claiming to have all sorts of knowledge, pretty much entirely unfounded. My current tips would be SMC (hold), TAN (buy on weakness), LNG (might be a while before it takes off after the recent rise though), POLL (for a long term investment) and SOLA (volatile, you can gain or lose quickly). I hold a few more (such as FEP if it ever comes good) but certainly wouldn't tip them to a novice. But in any case, on now account buy shares on the basis of the opinions expressed here. Yesterday they announced a supply deal for 1000 electric vehicle systems for vans in Mexico. SP romped up then and again today. Company making quite hefty losses but this new contract is worth a few million, and the share price is still a lot lower than when mentioned in October. Might be worth a look.

Hey mozy. Well I've only been vaguely watching SMC, I did try to buy in previously but the computer trading wasn't working so gave up, and the shares dropped further afterwards. Then when checking news this morning (pre 8am) the comment by sharetrader was what made me take notice. By 8am I'd read the report and decided this was going to go well, by 08:01 there had been lots of trades and the shares were already up, which is when I placed my order. I think to catch one like this you need to watch the boards (you can watch the news streams but there are so many it's hard to pick the relevant ones) and see when shares have good or bad news coming out. Research it as well as you can and then decide whether to trade, but be quick! Don't rely on posts from individuals either, I've picked as many duffers as winners. Huge loss on CHP for me this week, exited down 39.5%, and I have account trades open and running at a loss on EME and TAN at present too. My positive open trades currently are SMC and SOLA, the former was meant to be a day trade but I've decided to hang on. Good luck, just remember that short term trading has high rewards, but high risks too.

Good guess glue, but WRONG this time :) I'm staying put for now. Hindsight proved correct on ACE as they've dropped back to a pound today, but SMC is a different matter. All the bad news has come and gone, todays release puts the profit warnings behind them. Indeed 65% of yearly revenues met in the first quarter bodes well, there may be some upgrades due once the news has been fully considered, a good likelihood of favourable press tomorrow, and a further increase in the SP in the short term. Although cross that I'd not managed to buy at 61p just after eight this morning, I was at least thankful that whilst on the phone to TDW the trade did complete. Even buying in at 73p the gain is 18% after costs. Some of the others here have done spectacularly well though, those in at 57p are on a 52% gain, yikes! Overall it's not been a great day, my top stars, TAN and LNG have both dropped, I'm overweight in both so when they go down it's hard for me to finish blue. That I did today can be attributed to SMC and SOLA. I'll be up early to check out any mention in the Times, it would be nice to see Tempus respond to the results with a buy. I'm on a T20 here, so can hang on for some time if the buying continues.

SMC just had a brief leap up to 84-85p. I was very tempted to take that as my closing price, a few sells came in very quickly and the price dropped back, on the offer anyway, to 80p. Some buying again now though and we're currently at 81-85p. Heading out for a cycle and swim at lunchtime, probably just as well really as this day trading get your heart rate up, but in the wrong way ;) One to hold for now I think, and not sell just because there's a little profit taking.

I see that the Annual Report is due next week and the Prelims the week after (on the 23rd). Plenty of buyers about and the shares still creeping up, with plenty of buys on level 2. I wonder if we're on the edge of a push back up above 500p? It seems highly unlikely that the results will be 'bad' and the cash raised from the convertible bonds will be used "for capital expenditure, working capital and general corporate purposes." The bonds can be converted into new shares at a price of 588p per share up to March 2012 and represent 9.49% of the existing share base. This looks to be a clever deal, a placing of sorts at well above the current share price, attractive to buyers as the long term prospects for SOLA are very good. I suspect it might put a slight drag on the SP performance once it passes 588p - assuming that happens before 2012 ;) but I think this will be neglible. Still cheap at 460-462p.
