My old favourite5 Apr 2007 12:22
I was a huge fan of Alan Sugar back in the early 80s before anyone had heard of him. He pretty much invented the home word processor, selling hundreds of thousands into a market with zero penetration and went on to do the same for PCs. I owned a PC386 which cost me the best part of two grand back in the late eighties, a fine introduction to personal computers it was too.
I invested in Amstrad a couple of times and made a bit of money, but for the last 15 years or so they've only been on my radar occassionally, on the introduction of new products or the odd profits warning.
I caught up with them yesterday after a bit of a decline in the share price, a bit odd as the last 'bad' news was in February. I decided to give my dear old mate Alan another chance after all these years, so have taken a small shareholding at 141.25p. My thought is that if they can get the HDTV PVR delays in hand they should recover well, any news of shipments in June is likely to be well accepted. At present I think anything under 150p is cheap. We should see a share price pushing back towards the 200p mark longer term.
Oh, and I'm not a fan of the apprentice, I never watch it.
