Did'nt even watch shares at all, bought and forgot about them, could have sold at 90p, waited for the next crash, bought x4 at about 22p, and more than doubled on top with a 10% div.... Wow lol, I bet somebody did..

Bonds is something I find hard to keep a grasp on, loose use of the term Yields, never sure if they are talking about the coupon or yield..
And why buy bonds, when spuds can give you 10% almost risk free lol

I own lloyds shares, what seems to happen is the media push the benefit of interest rates, then at about 50p push the mortgages defaults line...
Motely fool seems to be their platform of choice,interest rates, cheap share, divi, why "everybody" is buying????, then down it goes...

@kevR, if your saving account gives a whopping 5%, and inflation is 10%, your down 5%...
When inflation was 2.5%, and saving rates only 0.5%, you were down just 2%....

@Tro, Mmmm, all this stuff is complex, really over my head but I also think they are in a difficult position, they have messed up...Forcing Green vs hydrocarbons , fuel security, security in Europe, fighting over Brexit, also years of quantitative easing brings inflation and money devaluation , more taxes adds to inflation( carbon).. Meddling with nature, Covid(fauci), East West divide..

This time I doubt inflation is because there is too much money in mr averages pocket, and he is'nt probably borrowing for a new car,,,which is partly why they increase rates, to stop that spending.. People are cutting back because of inflation, so increasing interest rates is going to add to that pressure mortgage... But the Govs have printing money, especially during covid...
So Interest rates will shrink the value of that debt over time,
I think by raising rates, it allows lowering them later which is done to encourage spending as we move out of a recession, to get people borrowing, and they may need to as their money is worth less...
And with inflation so high those saving rates are still worse than before, the difference between inflation and savings account rates could well be greater....
