RE: Data still continues to be collected8 Mar 2024 21:05
I know we get hung up on just what a 'therapeutic level' actually is, and it is quite relevant to the AVCT sp. An analogy came to me and I just wanted to share.
Alcohol is a drug, and some people 'self medicate’ using it, quite a lot of people in fact. Just suppose there was a new product, lets call it AVA70º and AVA70º hopes to replace... Scotch whisky (maybe even a platform so Gordons Gin and Stella Artois too).
Rather handily, AVA70º only cleaves in the brain on contact with some up-regulated brainy protein. The hope is it doesn't give you high blood pressure, nor heart disease, stroke, digestive problems; nor increase your chances of mouth, throat, oesophagus, voice box, liver, colon, and rectum cancer. There’s not even any alcohol on your breath after drinking (could be handy for driving home after Christmas parties.... And whiskey is a multi £B's market, world-wide.
Then the CEO says the AVA70º has, so far, only been tested for safety – and yet, some people are actually falling over, singing raucous songs, generally showing efficacy :-)
Upon trying to hawk AVA70º around the distillers the CEO of AVA70º finds that the bosses of Diageo plc, United Distillers, et al, would rather like to know whether the 'therapeutic dose' is closer to 'half a shandy', or to a 'treble Scotch'. Good question? Alcohol is alcohol, will behave like alcohol in the brain (it’s a very well known drug in fact) but while both doses are technically ‘therapeutic', Diageo know they'll sell a lot more of AVA70º if it gets closer to the effects of Whisky than to half a shandy. In fact, Diageo refuse to pay top whack until there’s phase 2 efficacy data to show just how p*ssed you can get on AVA70º, without side effects. If the top dose is shandy after all, the total market will be rather smaller.
So we wait and see.
Thank you.
