Maybe I mentioned this. Talking to a dad at netball one Saturday in July about share buying habits and turns out one of his clients is Mammoth Mattresses. He'd heard about eve. He says Mammoth do very well indeed as they have a well earned reputation and don't need to send much money on marketing. They have recs from some institutes of physiotherapy or whatever.
Seems to me that eve were headed that way (with their Which? recs) and reducing marketing spend, before Putin changed everything.
Anyway, the other share keeps getting decent news. I'm well down on so many shares but maybe there's still hope with that one at least!

I wonder if eve will be able to receive any potential government help announced by the new PM.

Dontgive, I think you see the BOD as reckless crew on the bridge, partying and not paying attention to their ship as they drive it towards the rocks that are fully charted. I don't think there's much support here for that view, maybe a couple of people?
I see it more of a case of an ice berg (Ukraine) in the calm night. Not something that was at all expected or likely though unexpected events can be guarded against to some extent. Yes, they could have steamed a little slower as they are still learning the ropes (had a better lookout posted, probably ought to have had more life boats under the circumstances).
Anyway, we haven't actually hit the hazard yet though all the alarms are ringing. Maybe CC / TP will still pull it RMS Eve around?

Thanks Mr A, but would the fact there's not been a MTD so far fit with that? I can see that there'd be advantages gathering data either way.

Practical question: Will cohort 4 be people who are all completely new, or can people from C3 (C2 or even C1) be included and have more and more AVA6K?
If I were in C3 and it was working I'd rather like to be in C4.

On Sept 1 I'll be wondering just how long due diligence takes, especially when you're back is against the wall?

On its own eve makes a loss and little sign of that changing in the current climate so, to me, being taken over by someone who can cut the eve office and staff (hopefully give those who want them roles in the parent company) and then make a profit is the best case scenario. Two suitors having the same idea would be even better and by a long way.

Why would anyone just put lots of money in to the current company and then carry on as-is?

Maybe eve have been on this list before. Just popped up for me.

I mentioned this once before. I don't have much spare cash and want to pay off a mortgage but wonder whether to put a few hundred in here as it's tax deductible (EIS). I think the money is stuck for three years.

They do seem to have potential to succeed. Family run business and I've seen a couple of Temple bikes around the place. They are crowdfunding at the start of September.

Just a quick PS that bed-in-boxes are vacuum packed (I don't think it's just eve that vacuum pack) whereas shops deliver full sized mattress – so fewer on a truck of those.

I believe the marginal advantages of online sales – when added up – can make a difference. Hope I'm right and hope that works to eve's advantage in the FSP.

Hi Ci. True on delivery costs but then high street places deliver too so face similar fuel costs, and eve were talking about one van / truck delivering to a single geographic area (albeit, that was when sales were increasing).

For me, if people don't have so much cash to spend that is a huge problem as they'd be tempted to make a mattress last 10% longer, 20% longer. That reduces the size of the available market. An online seller might be better placed to keep prices competitive compared to 'bricks and mortar' sellers.

While we want DFS to sell stacks of eves, it's probably still true to say it'd be better if customers bought directly.

I appreciate that production costs will have risen sharply. A glass worker on the radio this morning had an energy bill in the ten of thousands (around £30k I seem to recall) that has risen to £130,000. She was very stressed and was asking for government help.
But eve's costs are mainly marketing (obviously still a lot of production costs) and perhaps marketing costs (TV advertising) could actually fall a little in this challenging environment, as they did during lockdown. Also, eve are in competition with bricks and mortar showrooms and they will have high heating costs before very long and those costs would have to be passed on. I still think that 'online' has a great future for for mattresses and hopefully for eve in particular.
