The problem with that is that it's impractical. The very first eve Original mattress sold for £400, £500.

The second mattress too, and so on.

But to get to the point of selling the first mattress cost investors millions and millions of pounds. Huge investment in research, contracts, building website, people's salaries, office and design space.

So it's not 'each and every' make a profit, it's get to the point where each and every make a profit and then continue to do so, and make so much money that the original investment gets to be covered too.

Eve got to the point of making a profit, fleetingly. They reinvested the profit rather than keep it in the bank account. Then the war began and customers bought fewer mattresses, beds, and pillows, at just the same time making and delivering them became more expensive.

Put it another way, if there'd been no war, sales were still rising due to the C4 sponsorship, marketing spend reducing, production costs about the same as 2021 – so UK profitable now, and France were going to be profitable in 2023, and the sp were... 9p–11p....

More money in the bank would buy more time but they would not be trading profitably today whatever they'd done 12 or 24 months ago.

Maybe if Sturrock had taken over 18 months earlier, and CC 18 months earlier, and made the changes they did, eve would have had a chance.

Maybe there'd be money in the kitty but I very much doubt eve would be generating cash in the UK's "appalling" market conditions as they now are. And with all the costs of production and distribution up.

Hi Jack, without the war and cost of living crisis, things should have been ok..

Perhaps they should have mitigated against the possibility of something terrible going wrong (the war) but they are not mature enough to have built up cash reserves. Just suppose they still had £5m in the bank today. Pulled out of France and saved cash and said 'yes, we are profitable' a year ago. They would now be back into loss making territory and the sp would have slumped. One;y difference would be that the FSP would be 6 months ahead of us rather than being 6 months old.

I could be wrong; it's just how I see it.

DFS are down -55.36% SP since I bookmarked them, when they began to sell eve stuff. They had a highly profitable business, and presumably a qualified and experienced board. But their customers too have deserted them to some extent.

If DFS had only had a few £million in the bank at the start of the cost of living crisis, they'd perhaps have one foot in the same boat as eve is now.

I can't help feeling that announcing this partnership (outdoor huts) would have been a lot better had it been organised to launch in March (before the summer) than in chilly October... What UK accommodation that does open through the winter can become a bit of a bargain so hard too see the benefit to eve before next spring.

Neighbour's sister works for a company with holiday yurts in the UK. I know they were super-busy and opening plenty of new sites just after lockdown, when everyone holidayed in the UK. Seems like a promising business. Do we think that unyokedco paid much for their premium hybrids or does 'partnering' mean eve gave them (refurbs?) mattresses?

Interesting timing nevertheless when CC must have plenty to think about, and a bit of a USP for eve.

I imagine that one hand of the business is getting ready for admin or T/O, and the other is 'carry on as usual' as "that's our job" – and, don't spook people any more than necessary.
