RE: Sell off after Dividends?30 Mar 2021 22:00
Hi there CP,
This is a tricky call, caused by the 0.2p vs 2p options.
I have a lot of my p/f chasing dividends (ASEI, AEWU, CEY, GSK, IMB, NG, POLY, RDSB, SUPR,).
This year the big FTSE shares have dropped a lot more than their divi, so much so that I trade parts of GSK and IMB around the divis, selling just before and buying back a couple of days later which has worked well.
The problem is, none of us know for sure, what will happen on any given day as market news can easily make a bigger difference than the divi.
In this case, as you are only getting 0.2p cash, I would normally suggest selling and buying back, but with the shares you have I think you should just stick to your plan.
If you are a LTH - just keep hold
If you are short term trading, then I would be tempted to sell tomorrow.
Just my thoughts, but has to be your own choice - whatever you are comfortable with.
There are no guarantees when you buy any share, and I have sold my shares today for a minimal 4% profit, as I had planned a very short term trade, and already missed chance of an extra 3-4% by selling too early today. But no problem as my target was just 3-4% as I did not want to tie trading funds up, as I have about 60% of my shares on LTH, 20% short term trades, 20% cash roughly. Each to their own.
GL whatever you decide
