So, China are depreciating their own currency, now…..

Beijing backed up the threat of retaliation by fixing the exchange rate of the renminbi at Rmb7.20 per dollar — the lowest since September 2023 — in a sign it could depreciate its currency to offset Trump’s tariffs.

During the first Trump administration, Beijing allowed its currency decline to offset the impact of tariffs. By midday in the US, the offshore renminbi, which trades freely, weakened to a record low of Rmb7.38 per dollar, hours after the People’s Bank of China set a midpoint for the official exchange rate below 7.20, a level Beijing had defended for months

China holds huge US debt so could always start causing problems for the US there as well.

The issue for China here is, if they start selling down the large amount of US debt ($749b) then the $ will weaken, and the Yuan will strengthen. Making Chinese exports more expensive. Also China conducts a lot of their trading in $. So, it’s a bit of a double edged sword really.

And which country has been taking on most US debt over the last ten years…..

The UK, from 180B to 690B (third most). Japan has the largest US debt on their books at 1.1 trillion USD.

Just look at Rolls. -22% nearly, in one day and fifteen minutes.

Been selling a lot down the last month or so. Just left with core holding now. All out of HB’s for the time being. But, what do I know?

My method is normally pretty accurate on FTSE opening. Although, who knows today?

Although, I’d strongly recommend that you’re 1: seated, & 2: not tucking into your cornflakes whilst reading. To think this particular exercise only concluded 34 days prior to the first profit warning does beg a few questions?…

I can't be ars.d to try to do the calculation myself, but I'd be vaguely curious to know just how much shareholder capital has been spaffed in total in the process based on the share price as it currently stands..?

By my reckoning,

£194.41m for 18.6m shares @ an average of £10.45. Although, only 18.3m got cancelled.

Value at close of play yesterday of cancelled shares, £106.96m

London-listed airline stocks were on the descent on Friday after Heathrow's boss warned that the cost of upgrading the airport to a new power system could cost upwards of £1bn, with airlines having to foot the bill through landing charges.

Oh I forgot. If you look at their financials, they have so much intangible assets on the books. A lot of that got added when they paid way over the top for countryside…..

You know my views of them as I’ve been saying for 6 months or more. They’ve cut the rate of the buybacks, debt ballooning, dividend halted, oh, and they’ve carried 50 million of debt over to this year. Then a bit to 2026 just for good measure. I don’t think they are telling the whole story. It’s a mess, and all confidence has evaporated.

A person closely associated with Usman Nabi, non-executive director of housebuilder Vistry (VTY) has bought 500,000 shares at 737p for a total value of £3,687,412 on 8 November.

Browning West, an independent investment partnership based in Los Angeles, California is currently the company’s largest shareholder of which Nabi is managing partner and chief investment officer.

The buyback was originally supposed to be concluded by 05/25. It’s now been pushed back to H1/26. So they’ve just slowed down the pace of the buybacks
