Panaji: The replacement of electronic power meters with smart meters in the state has hit a roadblock with no takers for the Rs 467 crore project floated through a tender by the state electricity department.
The last date for submitting the bids ended a few days ago, and it elicited zero responses from suitable bidders, according to a government official. The project is likely to be retendered shortly.
Implementation of smart meters in the state was proposed to be completed in March 2025, under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the Union government.
The tender for appointment of an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) service provider for smart prepaid metering on a design, build, finance, own, operate, and transfer (DBOOT) basis was floated on September 9 this year. As per the tender, 7,50,356 smart meters were to be installed in place of digital meters. The project is fully funded by the Centre.
