RE: Soda-lo competition?19 Oct 2021 14:22
The CEO Victor Hugo Manzanilla addresses this question below vis a vis Soda lo:
What makes your product better than Eminate's SODA-LO® Salt Microspheres, licensed by Tate & Lyle?
"The patented all-natural technology behind SODA-LO® Salt Microspheres turns standard sea salt crystals into free-flowing hollow microspheres. These hollow microspheres are much smaller than regular salt crystals but deliver big flavour, providing clean salt taste with up to 50% less sodium."

They don't have the need for a carrier like Maltodextrin used in Microsalt. Maltodextrin is high on the glycemic index (GI), has the same amount of calories as sucrose, or table sugar.

Hello. Thank you for your question.
The carrier (Maltodextrin in this case) plays a key role in the technology that deliver significant benefits vs. the technology that you mention:
1) The carrier gives weight to the particle which is extremely important when it's used in production facilities. If the particle is too light it will create a cloud of salt in the production line (salt will not settle) limiting the attachment of the particle to the product (i.e., snack) and getting salt everywhere in the production facility causing clean-up problems and corrosion in equipment.
2) The level of maltodextrin (sugar content) in the final product (i.e., snack) is too low and will not cause any change in the nutrition label/content. As an example, a typical potato chip snack will have around 1% of its weight in salt which (in a serving size of 28g) it’s only 0.11 grams of maltodextrin.
Also, our technology can use other carriers like arabic gum, which will solve any maltodextrin/GI concerns that some customers may have.
3) The carrier size and weight are needed in order to use MicroSalt® in flavor mixes (i.e., BBQ flavor, Sour Cream flavor, etc.). Solutions that don’t have the weight needed, cannot be mixed because it will cause separation in the flavor mix due to weight (heavier particles will settle down and lighter particles will go up). It’s important to know that in order to impact a big part of the market, the solution must work as a component of flavor mixes.
4) The carrier is also instrumental to block the recrystallization process of the salt so we can deliver a smaller particle size which brings a saltier flavor with less salt.
Also, as you noted in your comment below, we do offer an option that is Non-GMO.
