Troublesome, "The so-called 'moss-roads' are like roller coasters and some must be a nightmare for cyclists, let alone car drivers."
It's the larger car drivers now causing much of the problems on the roads. Firstly, most car drivers don't really need cars so big (family sizes are falling if anything !!), Secondly, the original road widths weren't built for the newer much wider large cars especially the rural roads, Thirdly, the newer larger cars are much heavier than the previously more common smaller cars, eg ford fiestas, etc..., thus the roads are wearing down much faster. The new larger cars are also 'automatics' thus increasing risks of lower driver concentration (no manual gears to change) and I'd argue increased risk of accidents hitting cyclists or pedestrians. There is also a materially higher risk of killing a pedestrian/cyclist/smaller car driver, versus maiming them, if a larger heavier car hits them. And yet people still buy these larger cars knowing all the above and costing much more than a smaller car !!
Btw I don't have a larger car as neither need one practically nor for showing off !!
