The government shutdown in the US has no effect on IAG flights at all

IAG does not operate internal American flights, as foreign airlines are not permitted to fly passengers between two points within the United States due to a regulation called "cabotage"

This stops the transportation of goods or passengers between two places in the same country by a transport operator from another country.

In other words IAG cannot fly point to point inside the USA

I doubt that very much - its the line from the CEO that transatlantic demand is weaker than expected which is causing the fall as that represents a third of IAG's revenue. The share price will struggle to recover from that statement.

What makes me wary of investing in National Grid s its massive net debt - this has gone up another half a billion pounds to nearly £42bn.

I was one of those investors that ignored Carillion's very large net debt and focused solely on headline earnings and revenue growth back in the day, and got very burned as a result.

I know National Grid is a very different business with a different set of risks, but I wont be blindsided by earnings and profit again in the face of huge debt personally.

I imagine if things go on like this then here will be another continuation vote at the next AGM and it will get a lot more support than it did last time

Hey Quiggers, i did exactly what you did and got out with a 100% profit, as like yourself I've had these shares a long time.

It was time to sell for me because I'm not greedy and I'm at an age now where owning very volatile shares such as in airlines are not good for my blood pressure!

After a few years of holding IAG I yesterday sold out at close of business.

I know the share price looks like its on the up and up now, but I've been burned so much by the volatility of this and other airline stocks that I took the decision to sell.

Yes Orange face is upset that he didnt get the Nobel peace prize so he has thrown his toys of the pram, in this case at China just because he can.

It got to £4 and tuppence earlier - definitely time to sell for me personally soon.

At £4.05 I'll be sitting on my first ever 100% gainer, so I'll be out then as I'm not greedy.

I'm sure it could go higher over the next few months but I'll be using the profits to top up a few other investments so will have no regrets here :)

I am a tad confused regards the next dividend payment for LAND

This is a quarterly paying dividend stock - the last payment was in July yet the next is not until January. Is there something I'm missing please?

It is good to see the trading statement confirm Tui's good results announced last month.

However, with this share any tiny piece of almost inconceivably bad news will start to drag it down - and here is that news:

"Airline bookings for the summer season dropped 2% year-on-year, with the German market seeing a particularly steep drop of 5%, TUI said in a statement.

The summer travel season is crucial for airlines and tourist businesses, with many operators making up for losses earlier in the year during these peak holiday months."

So yes its nice to get a good bounce this morning, but experience has shown me that it probably wont last unfortunately.

I genuinely hope I am wrong though as I have waited years to break even here.

To be fair the TUI share price may be more affected by the Middle East conflict compared to rivals due to its greater reliance on leisure travel and package holidays. TUI is heavily invested in tourism-dependent markets. Disruptions in airspace, rising fuel costs, and geopolitical instability can lead to cancellations, reduced bookings, and lower consumer confidence, which directly impact TUI’s revenue.

The share prices of airline stocks are bound to be effected now by the plane crash in India too

Yes I am more than happy as have held this a few years and am sitting on a nice profit which makes a change.

Decision now though is whether to sell or not at these levels......

After owning this god awful share for years it at last broke even today and i sold out.

No amount of great forecatsts and bumper profits had any sustained effect on the share price upwards.

I wish all good luck who own EasyJet going forward and I hope it does well for you, but i am mightily relieved personally to have at last got out without losing any money.

Hi @maestroman. You are doing the right thing selling chunks and taking profits as thats the whole point of investing - to make money :)

The buy and hold forever menatality that some people have makes no sense to me - take profits while they are there and re-invest those elsewhere to make more money is my method of choice with investing.

Maybe they are waiting until that event to announce the takeover.....or to say they've rejected it and will be going solo.....

At least it's just to the end of the week i suppose.....I wonder what the sticking points are?

It's put up or shut up day tomorrow (June 2nd) for Qualcomm regarding their will they wont they bid for Alphawave.

No doubt the decison deadline will get expended (for the 4th time) , but lets hope for a decsion one way or the other tomorrow to get rid of the uncertainty.
