Polyhalite doesn't contain all the nutrients that are needed by most plants for successful growth. It is therefore necessary to add these other nutrients at some stage during the plants growing cycle unless they are already present in the soil.

Most growers use a pre mixed compound fertiliser such as Growmore that contains all the nutrients for a plant to grow. To make this sort of mix it would be necessary to add Nitrogen and Phosphate to Polyhalite - this is an industrial process that is done in a fertiliser manufacturing unit.

Poly4 is raw Polyhalite coated in starch to make it farmer friendly - it will be applied as part of a planned cropping schedule by the farmer - they mix it themselves with other nutrients in a fertiliser spreader or apply other nutrients at different times in the cropping schedule as necessary.

I think that SM will be supplying the raw material to fertiliser manufactures to make their own mixes. Unless SM acquire a fertiliser manufacture I cannot see that changing - they would in effect be competing against their own customers - never a good idea.

Poly4 is different - it is simply a farmer friendly version of polyhalite - it will I think have a massive market in the US where it fits perfectly into their high tech farming methods and also fits the bill for their climate - especially in drought areas, used alongside sub soil irrigation - no more dust bowl!!

I think that ICL will continue to ramp up their Polysulphate offering with even more mixes and the market share will steadily increase - a real trailblazer for ICL and SM.

Eventually ICL will close Boulby - when it is cheaper to by raw polyhalite from SM - they will end up with market dominance and expertise for refined polyhalite compound fertiliser mixes - where the big margins are for a market leading fertiliser manufacturer.

Not sure Squif but it looks like they should be able to do the lift on Monday - weather is ok most of next week.

I guess they need to be clear of the field before we see a hook up though.

It looks like the weather has put paid to the Transocean Rig lift at the moment - all three tugs have made for shelter on the east coast of Shetland.

Final results are to be announced this Thursday 21st March and Brent seems likely to continue to climb so I think that we can start to be positive again - in fact there is a very good that Enquest will be a multibagger over the coming months.

The Development Authority and Government under its Northern Powerhouse banner have a golden opportunity to develop Teesside as a hub for fertiliser manufacture - using Government guarantees as part of the incentive.

The cost savings for the manufacturers would be compelling if they could have polyhalite delivered to their factories via conveyor and transport product around the world via the local docks.

Just to let you know that three tugs have just left Aberdeen - Havila Venus, Atlantic Merlin and Havila Jupiter - due to arrive at Kraken tomorrow evening for the Transocean Leader tow.

Yes we have Havila Venus, Atlantic Merlin and it looks like Havila Jupiter probably as well - all three are just leaving Aberdeen.

I think that we will see another couple of tugs arriving at the field before they are ready to leave - they usually use three tugs for towing - especially as the weather forecast for Sunday night into Monday is awful.

Regarding the next hook up - Scott Spirit is at anchor off Aberdeen - so any time - but we will I think be find that the weather will be a big factor over the coming weeks - the jet stream looks like it is moving north to dominate Scottish weather.

The anchor handling support vessel Havila Venus is due at the Kraken field tomorrow so it looks like Transocean Leader has finished DC4 - some good news !!!

No sign yet of the next shuttle tanker - but plenty of candidates in the week ahead.

There has afterall been some rather high contact between SM and the Chinese.

I think that we are seeing a fair bit of manipulation to the SP at the moment and some chunky trades - an indication that the shorts are starting to slowly cash out - probably the bond holders who are hedging - another positive sign I think.

The thing is Squif that Enquest and AB are a package - a bit like Branson and Virgin - they don't abide or play by the rules - they simply do what they bloody well want to - good or bad.

I don't think that AB cares what the fund and investment managers think - he is empire building - just like any self respecting entrepreneur.

Personally that is why I invest here but it can at times be bad for our wealth as shareholders.

Kraken

Yes, that's exactly what I would have thought but AK managed 50k during the early winter of 2018.

I do have another theory though. When AK was on its journey from Singapore it suffered damage in the bay of Biscay in high seas - I think that was the reason it spent time in Rotterdam - I do wonder how resilient the vessel is to sea water damage during storms - it has suffered other outages after storms - last Christmas for example when we lost a week.

Taking that forward - all was going well in February 2018 - what happened after that ?

Maybe AK was damaged in March by the beast from the east? - but why wasn't it repaired if that was the case?

I guess we have to conclude that the water issue is the main problem but that temperature isn't an issue unless the weather is very bad..

It would seem to be obvious that AK won't produce at full capacity in cold weather and one of the outages was in cold weather last March, but maybe we are jumping to conclusions on this issue. The ops update from February 2018 would appear to contradict this view -

"Following first oil from Kraken on 23 June 2017, production increased throughout the second half of the year as both production and injection wells performed in line with expectations. The second processing train, which was brought online during November, resulted in gross production rates of over 40,000 Bopd being achieved. Since late December, all DC3 wells have been brought online and operational efficiency has significantly improved. Average gross production in January was over 35,000 Bopd, and has reached 50,000 Bopd with improving operational efficiency as we continue to optimise performance."

I wonder if MW will take the opportunity to cash out while the SP is so low - that could help push us back towards 20p.
