How high can the oil price rise?14 Aug 2020 09:27
With so many sources of supply - especially in the US - that can vary output depending on the current oil price, there must be an upper limit to the price of oil.
Over the last few years I think we have seen that upper limit.
It was actually breached in 2018 when Brent rose above $80 but fell back to $70 as US production increased during 2019.
Before corvid we saw, what would have probably held for 2020, a price between $60-$70 - I would suggest that this is probably the upper limit.
However, we could get another breach of the upper limit, like we did in 2018, before the price stabilizes as supply increases again but this depends on OPEC+.
