Just had this email (extract) from IG.

“Due to ongoing volatility in gold and silver markets, we're updating our margin requirements across all positions to reflect current conditions. These changes take effect on 30 January 2026, 3pm UK time. “

Essentially they’re doubling their margin requirements on gold and silver.

That’s a delayed trade from yesterday. Am sure we will see more from today in due course though.

Talking of gold in the ground, it will be interesting to see what value they attribute to it in the updated Telfer MRE bearing in mind we’re currently (Victor, look away now) $5200-$5300/oz market at the moment. Also could the Hav gold in the ground be revalued upward or is this frowned upon?

I said in October $5k gold 'would happened faster than anyone believes'. $8k gold will be the June 26 floor. ( I dare not put that through the calcs. 😂 )
