We need a good old Texas oilman to run the company, who would make it compulsory to wear a Stetson on BP premises and insist all staff ate a 16oz steak at least twice a day, and convert all the resulting methane into a highly profitable new revenue stream.

They'll fall at the first. Hope they don't blame the horse, I'd put the jockey down, a mercy killing for long suffering BP shareholders.

The first job of any CEO is to deliver shareholder value. It is not Looney's job to save the planet on our behalf, using our money. BP is not an O&G company anymore, it's an integrated hybrid energy concern(I almost lost the will to live just writing that). Looney halved the dividend in Aug 20 after Dudley increased it in Feb 20, which in itself makes BP's board look like muppets. A coherent dividend policy manages itself throughout the cycle. Oil prices rise and fall, on Looney's watch oil has been $20 and $140. Shareholders have had to pay for this punt, and it will be years before we know the results. Looney will be long gone by then, enriched and ennobled as Lord Looney, for services to the destruction of shareholder value.

Can't argue with the numbers. The question is, what's a fair yield for the added risk.

I thought 10p, they could afford 12p. If there are any concerns about the geopolitical situation , that might affect the decision on the dividend. The board do err on the side of caution.

Oiled-up, you don't add up.

They used up 70% of the $1.5bn buyback in the first 3 weeks, leaving 8 weeks for the other 30%. Poorly planned, buying 17 million shares a day at the start at over 4 quid just to beat the ex-div date. I think it averages about $25m a day to purchase shares. Another BP ****up!

Deep down Looney isn't an oilman from the old school. His idea of a good time is probably driving round in his EV with a macrobiotic fruit shake. Dudley and Sechin had their differences but they could have a drink together and build a relationship. Sechin thinks Looney is destroying everything that Dudley built. I have been a Looney sceptic from the start, high oil prices have temporarily masked a strategy which leaves too many questions. What I do know is with BP losing half its oil and gas reserves, a third of its production and a $1bn annual dividend, that strategy has become even more flawed.

Hereshopin, could you make that, if the share price falls tomorrow, you stay away from every board for a week. Give you a chance to work on ur issues and come back feeling nice and human, minus the bile.

Most of Kazakhstan's oil is transported through the CPC pipeline, onto Russia and Ukraine. It's mostly Kazakh oil, but contains some Russian oil. This oil is finding it hard to find buyers, so other means are being explored. The BTC pipeline has ample capacity to take this oil, is run by BOTAS, a Turkish company, and runs through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. These 3 countries are against Russian sanctions, which could make life tricky for BP, who operate the oil and gas fields in the Caspian.

Today was the smallest share buyback since the $1.5bn scheme began on Feb 8. My hunch was it was mainly done in the morning as the average price was £3.74. They are over 70 per cent through this buyback programme in three weeks, with 8 weeks left. In the last quarter they announced an extra $500 million for buybacks. With the buoyant oil price I'd expect something similar to happen this quarter.

BP may have issued a sanguine business as usual RNS, but the Rosneft news places huge question marks over their business model for the decade ahead. Mad Dog 2 is coming on stream in Q2, but its small fry. BP discovered the Tiber and Kaskida fields earlier this century, both are multi billion barrel fields. The technology to develop these ultra deep assets did not exist then, but it does now, as Chevron have shown with the Anchor field. BP should hand over operation of these fields to assuage Macondo fears. BP have acted far too hastily to placate some 'here today, gone tomorrow' politician, Kwasi Kwarteng. I note no oil majors from the United States have yet to announce any Russian withdrawal.

I don't remember much from my history lessons, but the phrase 'sphere of influence' sticks out. Putin is acting completely in character, taking advantage of the exceptionally poor calibre of politicians holding office in the West. Boden, Macron and Johnson may talk tough but when Putin looks them in the eye, he must just laugh. Thatcher in her pomp is what the West needs now.

JSSR, if I was sat at the rooftop bar of the best hotel in Singapore, I would not be trolling some punter whose aim is the same as yours, to make a return on his investment. Sounds like you don't really want to be there, but I'm sure lots of folks will be impressed.
