That’s funny-I almost posted yesterday that I wondered how long it would be before the oil companies started buying up the lithium battery companies.

What’s becoming clear is that Omangov are keen to “own” the rebirth of its copper mining industry. The PAM presentation was all about Al Hadeetha rather than Alara who barely got a mention. I suspect they will wait awhile before announcing SAV’s licence and when they do it will be all about it’s Omani partner Al Fairuz. They could issue the license to SAV tomorrow but seem to prefer to stage-manage events. Alara’s project may be low-yielding but has a greater political value to Omangov in its strategy to diversify its industries. Unfortunately there is not much we can do to hurry things along?

It’s the dog days of summer....again! Not much wind to stir the sails! Even Alara’s license presentation puff had little effect. The investment market is in the doldrums, risk-off, commodities out of favour. Not a good time to come up with great news as it will be lost. Just need to wait this period out, then off we go again!

To be fair it is now on their twitter feed so presumably not “fake news”!

Shame as it was a good day for SAV, up 6%! However the airwaves can have a rest from our collective musings. Daughter’s wedding tomorrow so hoping for a boost in Monday valuations to replenish the balance (on paper anyway)!

I’m intrigued too but I’m not expecting a clear answer! My guess is that as the price was falling, the charts forecast a grim outlook with a potential much lower price that no one with any sense would believe. Now that the price is rising again the chart is (surprise,surprise) pointing in the opposite way? And so it goes on. Each to his own.

Oman was on my mind it seems but the Arabs and Southern Europeans are both painted as a little tardy. Perhaps unjustly as the Portuguese engage in car production and Porto folk seem to manage to make and export their fortified wines without any bother. In Oman the surfeit of oil revenues mean that there is no need to rush major decisions.

Ah IB, if only the Omanis were as time efficient as us! Cultural difference with regard to time/engagement priorities may be the answer? Not every country is happy to take Chinese investment, see http://www.mining.com/chile-antitrust-watchdog-probing-tianqi-buy-lithium-miner-stake/ Chilean development organisation is suggesting it’s not in Chile’s long term interest for Tianqi Lithium to get a virtually controlling stake in SQM. I expect we will see more of this political action as countries realise what’s going on. If you are considering investing in other Li miners, it may just be wise to check that there isn’t a growing Chinese ownership that could result in the company becoming a political football to the detriment of progress. Makes SAV look all the more attractive!
