RE: What value for Moz?4 Feb 2021 20:45
Well, the last scoping study was done in May 2017 and as you know a PFS is underway which should revise that valuation. In 2017 some valuations were given on a range of low - high ilmenite prices, the highest being $222/T. At that level the project value was estimated at a pre-tax NPV (10% discount rate) of $335M.
The good news is that by 2020, ilmenite prices exceeded the higher expectation with Moz neighbour Kenmare reporting an average $269/ton sale price. That’s an increase of 22%! Now you could apply that to the earlier valuation and get $409m but costs don’t increase with sale prices so you could be looking at a much higher valuation!
However even at ~$400m, that’s 6-7 times our current Capex or if you prefer about 34p added to the current SP.
My calculations of course but you get an impression of the potential scale of the project. Also when material prices reach certain thresholds, they tend to reawaken projects that were previously lying dormant. Perhaps the sleeping giant is about to stir?
